    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may attempt to access a network at a local area network access point without prior context information. The access point may be a hotspot operating in unlicensed spectrum according to a Long Term Evolution (LTE)-based standard. The UE may be unable to determine if it is authorized to access the network, so the UE may attempt to obtain system information that provides a list of service providers supported by the network. The UE may then determine whether it has credentials for a supported service provider, and the UE may access the network using those credentials when a supported service provider is recognized. Other broadcast messages may provide information about system information for supported service providers. A UE that is unable to access the network using stored credentials may attempt access using a random access channel procedure.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and/or devices are described for are provided for transmission overload control and/or supervision of wireless devices. Tools and techniques may be provided for resolving issues associated with numerous wireless devices connected to a base station. For example, a transmission cycle for an uplink channel may be identified where the transmission cycle is discontinuous. Scheduling request and or Random Access Channel messages may be transmitted from a wireless device based on the discontinuous transmission cycle. Tools and techniques are also provided that may involve supervision of numerous wireless devices. Supervision may, for example, involve keep-alive messages transmitted in accordance with a timer. The supervision may be based on determination of, and transmissions related to, a list or lists of connected wireless devices. In some cases, the wireless devices may be delay tolerant. The wireless devices may include UEs that may have long sleep cycles and/or machine-type communications (MTC) devices.

    Abstract: Techniques are provided for transmission of small data packets through a paging procedure in a MTC or cellular internet of things system (CIoT). A core network may receive data to be transmitted to a user equipment (UE) and may determine that a small data packet transmission may be initiated for the data. The core network may format the small data packet into a paging request that includes the data and a UE identification, and transmit the paging request to a base station. The base station may receive the paging request, and initiate a page process with the UE. The UE may receive a page message, and initiate an access procedure that may be used for transmission of the small data. The UE may be in idle mode prior to the small data transmission, and in some examples may return to idle mode following the transmission of the small data.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a dynamic coverage enhancement (CE) configuration and then autonomously transition from one CE level to another while in idle mode. The network may blindly detect the CE change during a paging procedure. For example, a mobility management entity (MME) may store dynamic CE information, and it may provide the dynamic CE information to base stations when the UE is paged. In some cases, the base stations may autonomously retransmit paging messages at different CE levels based on the dynamic CE information. In other examples, the MME may direct the base station to retransmit at different CE levels.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device transmits an indication of whether the device should be paged over a 3GPP access when a core network has data ready to transmit for PDU sessions over a non-3GPP access. A session management function (SMF) of the core network receives a data notification indicating that the core network has data ready to transmit to the wireless device for a PDU session over the non-3GPP access. The SMF determines whether to transmit a paging request to an access and mobility management function (AMF) of the core network based on a paging state of the SMG, a paging state of the wireless device, or a connection management idleness state of the wireless device. The AMF determines whether to transmit a paging message to the wireless device.
