Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may receive at least two reference signals from a base station. The apparatus may determine CSI associated with at least one of the at least two reference signals. The apparatus may determine at least one parameter based on the CSI. The apparatus may transmit, to the base station, the at least one parameter and the CSI to enable a predicted CSI to be determined based on the at least one parameter and the CSI. The apparatus may receive data or control information from the base station based on predictive CSI determined by the base station using the transmitted at least one parameter and CSI.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for implementation of higher rank transmissions (e.g., higher rank line of sight (LOS) schemes) over a given beam direction associated with a selected transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state. According to some aspects, expanded antenna arrays, spatial separation (e.g., distance) between antenna elements, lower carrier frequencies (e.g., associated with frequency range 4 (FR4) systems), etc. may be leveraged to communicate uncorrelated signals (e.g., independent streams across spatial layers) for higher rank transmissions using a given TCI state (e.g., using a single beam direction). Various aspects of the described techniques may provide for higher rank directional communications by a user equipment (UE) (e.g., via uncorrelation in a single UE), higher rank directional communications by select UEs (e.g., via uncorrelation across specific UEs), base station antenna selection for uncorrelation at multiple served UEs, etc.

Abstract: Techniques and devices for wireless communications are described. A first wireless device may establish a communications link with a second wireless device in a first radio frequency spectrum band. When transmitting a beamformed transmission in the first radio frequency spectrum band, an antenna array at the first wireless device may generate a grating lobe. The grating lobe may result in a beam ambiguity when the first wireless device switches to a second radio frequency spectrum band. The first wireless device may receive one or more reference signals from the second wireless device in the second radio frequency spectrum band. The reference signals may include a respective reference signal for each lobe (e.g., a main lobe and one or more grating lobes) identified in the beamformed communications link in the first radio frequency spectrum band. The first wireless device may use the reference signals to resolve the beam ambiguity.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to perform positioning determination procedures, such as angle-based positioning procedures, with a base station to determine the position of the UE relative to the base station. To avoid positioning ambiguities that may result from antenna element spacing of an antenna module of the UE at some frequencies, such as mutual coupling or grating lobes, a UE may transmit a capability message indicating the capability of the UE related to the positioning procedures. In some cases, the UE may de-activate one or more antenna elements to increase the spacing between the antenna elements so as to mitigate mutual coupling when transmitting or receiving positioning reference signals. In some cases, the UE may request that the positioning reference signals be scheduled on some frequencies, not scheduled on other frequencies, or both.

Based at least in part on the relay link beam sweep procedure, the first UE may select a first beam pair. The first UE may establish a relay link with the second UE using the selected beam pair.

Abstract: A beam failure caused by an event initiated by the UE such as folding of the UE or shutting down of a UE antenna penal may be predictable. Accordingly, the UE may declare a beam failure detection (BFD) without going through a potentially long detection procedure. Disclosed herein are apparatus and methods for detecting beam failure and terminating BFD earlier than the current DFD process would have. The method may include identifying a beam failure (BF) event at the UE that impacts at least one beam pair link (BPL) and communicating a request to an associated base station to stop communicating on an impacted beam pair link, without going through an entire BFD process.

Abstract: There may be a gap between the time a beam pair link (BPL) impacted by a beam failure (BF) event is deactivated and the time a replacement BPL is activated and becomes fully functional at a UE. The gap may be called a blackout period. A base station may not know the blackout period and may continue transmitting to the UE on the impacted BPL during the blackout period. This may result in a transmission failure. Disclosed herein are apparatus and methods for determining a blackout period associated with a beam failure (BF) event and communicating a blackout indication to a base station, the blackout indication including the blackout period.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for beamforming parameter adaptation techniques. In one aspect, a first wireless device may receive a capability message from at least a second wireless device in a wireless communications system, the capability message indicating a default operating frequency of the second wireless device, a default operating frequency priority of the second wireless device, or both. That is, the second wireless device may transmit the capability message. The first wireless device may transmit, and at least the second wireless device may receive, an indication of the one or more codebook parameters. The one or more codebook parameters may indicate a default operating frequency for the wireless communications system. The first wireless device and the second wireless device may communicate with at least the second wireless device in accordance with the one or more codebook parameters.

Abstract: Systems and methods establishing and maintain a direct User Equipment to User Equipment communication link in a gNB are disclosed. A gNB may determine that direct UE to UE link should be established in a cell. The gNB may transmit information to a first and second UE to enable a device to device beam search procedure. The first and second UE may perform the beam search and report the result to the gNB. The gNB may determine the appropriate beam for the first and second UE to establish a communication link.
