Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for dynamically changing coverage modes and/or communication bandwidth in a wireless communication system. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may attach to a serving cell associated with a cellular network. A volume of data for upcoming communication with the cellular network may be determined. An indication of a requested communication bandwidth may be provided to the serving cell. The wireless device may communicate data with the serving cell using the requested communication bandwidth. In some instances, a request for narrowband communication bandwidth may result in use of a coverage enhancement mode, while a request for wideband communication bandwidth may result in use of a normal coverage mode.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and computer readable media are described that determine a connection state between a mobile wireless device and a wireless network upon detection of an interruption of a connection between the mobile wireless device and the wireless network. The mobile wireless device transmits an uplink resource allocation message to the wireless network, and when receiving no response to the uplink resource allocation message, transmits a random access message to the wireless network. When receiving no response from the wireless network to the random access message, the mobile wireless device executes a radio link failure procedure. In an embodiment, the uplink resource allocation message includes a unique identifier for an existing radio resource control connection between the mobile wireless device and the wireless network.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a user equipment device (UE) to perform a method for supporting a periodical radio access network (RAN) notification area (RNA) mechanism when small data transmission (SDT) is enabled for a user equipment device (UE). The method may include the UE receiving, from a base station, an indication enabling an SDT procedure along with an indication of an RNA timer configuration, transitioning, to a radio resource control (RRC) inactive state, and initiating an RNA timer based on the RNA timer configuration. The UE may, upon initiation of the SDT procedure, stop the RNA timer and, upon termination of the SDT procedure, start the RNA timer. During the SDT procedure, the UE may receive any of an SDT termination indication, an SDT subsequent transmission indication, or an SDT subsequent transmission termination indication that may include an updated RNA timer configuration (and/or RNA timer reconfiguration).

Abstract: Devices and associated methods for operating a dual-subscriber identity module (SIM) dual-standby (DSDS) user equipment device (UE) configured with a first SIM and a second SIM. The UE performs communications with a first cellular network using the first SIM and a first radio resource control (RRC) connection, and receives a request to perform a higher priority communication using the second SIM. In response to the request to perform the higher priority communication, the UE transmits a request to the first network to suspend the first RRC connection. After transmission of the request to suspend the first RRC connection, the UE receives a message from the first network to place the first RRC connection in an inactive state, and initiates a timer, wherein the timer is used to determine whether the first RRC connection remains in the inactive state or transitions to an idle state.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for supporting switching between point to point and point to multipoint delivery with service continuity for broadcast and multicast services in a wireless communication system. A cellular base station and a wireless device may establish a wireless link. The cellular base station may provide information configuring an over the air delivery type with which to receive a broadcast or multicast service, which may be received by the wireless device. The cellular base station may transmit the service using the configured delivery type, and the wireless device may correspondingly receive the service. The cellular base station may provide information configuring the wireless device to switch to a different over the air delivery type, with service continuity. The cellular base station may then transmit the service using that delivery type, and the wireless device may correspondingly receive the service.

A wireless device may establish a radio resource control connection with a cellular base station. The wireless device may receive an indication to release the radio resource control connection. The indication to release the radio resource control connection may configure resources for performing uplink transmissions while in the radio resource control inactive mode. A timing advance may be maintained while in the radio resource control inactive mode. An uplink transmission may be performed using resources configured for performing uplink transmissions while in the radio resource control inactive mode. The uplink transmission may be performed using the timing advance.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for non-small data transmission (non-SDT) dedicated radio bearer (DRB) handling while in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive state. A wireless device may determine, while operating in the RRC inactive state, that non-SDT data is available for transmission on a non-SDT DRB and determine, based on one or more conditions, to transmit, to a base station, non-SDT data arrival information during SDT procedure. The one or more conditions may be associated with arrival time of the non-SDT data and/or an amount of non-SDT data to be transmitted. The arrival time may be relative to arrival of SDT data, initiation of an SDT procedure, and/or initiation of a subsequent transmission period of an SDT procedure.
