    Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include flexible tube assemblies, flexible needle assemblies, systems, methods of fabricating a flexible tube, and methods of fabricating a flexible needle. In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, a flexible tube assembly includes: a flexible tube having a proximal end with a proximal strain relief section and a distal end with a distal strain relief section, the proximal strain relief section being located between the proximal end and the distal strain relief section and the distal strain relief section being located between the distal end and the proximal strain relief section, the distal end defining an opening therein, at least a portion of at least one of the proximal strain relief section and the distal strain relief section defining therein a spiral cut with a continuously variable pitch; and tubing disposed in an airtight manner over an exterior surface of the flexible tube at least the portion of the at least one of the proximal strain relief section and the distal strain relief section defining therein the spiral cut with a continuously variable pitch.

    Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for automatic control of laser treatment of target structure in a body of a subject based on acoustic feedback in response to delivery of laser energy to the target are disclosed. An exemplary laser energy delivery system comprises a laser system to direct laser energy at a body target, and a controller circuit to receive an acoustic signal in response to delivery of laser energy to the target, and to measure acoustic properties from the acoustic signal. The control circuit may generate control signals for controlling the laser system to adjust laser energy output, or for controlling an actuator to adjust a position of a laser fiber distal end relative to the target to achieve a desired therapeutic effect.

    Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for extracting a tissue sample. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a rotatable sampling element having a cylindrical body that defines a receiving chamber configured to receive therein a tissue sample cut from a tissue mass. A cutting apparatus is disposed at a distal end of the cylindrical body to cut the tissue sample from the tissue mass abutting the distal end responsive to rotation of the cylindrical body as it is pressed against the tissue mass. The apparatus also includes a flexible drive shaft having a distal end fixably engaged with a proximal end of the rotatable sampling element. The flexible drive shaft is linearly movable to motivate the rotatable sampling element to press it against the tissue mass and rotatable to impart rotational force to the rotatable sampling element to cause the rotatable sampling element to rotate around the axis.

A method of identifying biological matter comprises engaging a medical device sensor with biological matter in a bile duct, electrically analyzing biological matter with the sensor to identify an electrical parameter, identifying biological matter from a liver, pancreas or gall bladder from the electrical parameter, and outputting indicia of the biological matter to a user of the medical device.
