There are provided a rubber-reinforcing glass fiber treatment agent capable of improving various properties, in particular the oil resistance, of a rubber product, a rubber-reinforcing cord using the fiber treatment agent, and a rubber product having high oil resistance. The rubber-reinforcing glass fiber treatment agent contains a resorcin-formaldehyde water-soluble condensate and a soap-free acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer latex. Here, “soap-free” means that polymerization has been carried out using, instead of a conventional emulsifier or surfactant, a polymerization initiator such as potassium persulfate, a styrenesulfonate, an acrylic or allylic reactive emulsifier or water-soluble polymer, or a hydrophilic comonomer such as a water-soluble oligomer or acrylic acid.

The invention is the manipulation of the zinc oxide content and sulfur content of nitrile butadiene rubbers and selected vulcanization conditions that can be achieved economically with common production facilities. The manipulation of these components affect the relaxation property of gloves formed by this material. Produced are gloves that have a relaxation property, higher than 50%, and a low modulus (approximately 3 Mpa). The glove maintains decent ultimate tensile strength (>20 Mpa) and elongation (>500%). The glove is produced by a vulcanization process which lasts from 5 to 60 minutes at temperatures ranging from 300null F. to 400null F. The tensile strength and elongation are well above the ASTM requirements for medical gloves. The current ASTM requirements are ASTM D412-92. Thanks to sufficient vulcanization, the films produced provide satisfactory protection from viral penetration. The tearing strength is also better because of the lower modulus.

The present invention provides a conductive rubber composition with a low hardness and low distortion, and exhibiting less variations in volume specific resistance value and less dependence on environment, a manufacturing method thereof, and further, a conductive rubber member using the same. The conductive rubber composition of the present invention contains a particulate polymer (A1, crosslinked particulate polymer, and the like), an uncrosslinked polymer (A2), and a conductivity imparting agent (B). The particulate polymer (A1) is a nonpolar polymer (SBR, and the like), the uncrosslinked (A2) is a polar polymer (NBR, and the like), and the more conductivity imparting agent (B) exists in the uncrosslinked polymer than in the crosslinked particulate polymer. This composition can be obtained by starting the kneading of the above-described respective compounds at such a temperature (T C.) that the Mooney viscosity of the uncrosslinked polymer is equal or less than the Mooney viscosity of particulate polymer. The particulate polymer (A1) preferably has an average particle diameter of 25 mm or less, and a Duro A hardness of 45 to 80. The conductive rubber member, according to the present invention, can be obtained by molding the above-described conductive rubber composition and then vulcanizing it.

A new and improved bleaching and finishing composition for bleaching and finishing a solid substrate includes a first component blend which includes a quantity of a latex resin and a quantity of a bleaching solution. A second component blend includes a quantity of a latex resin, a quantity of an alcohol, a quantity of water, a quantity of a substrate treating material, and a quantity of an alkalizing agent. The first component blend and the second component blend are maintained separated from each other in storage, and the first component blend and the second component blend may be mixed together prior to use on the substrate. Preferably, the substrate is wood. The second component blend may also include a quantity of a coloring agent for tinting the substrate to a desired shade of color. Also, a method is provided for bleaching and finishing a solid substrate. In the method, the first component blend and the second component blend are mixed together to form a mixture, and the mixture is applied to a wooden substrate and dried.

Improved rubberized coal tar emulsion compositions especially suitable for sealing bituminous pavement compositions, such as asphalt pavement compositions. A composition according to the invention comprises a major portion of a prepared coal tar pitch emulsion and water, having admixed therewith a small amount of an acrylonitrile/butadiene copolymer latex having an extraordinarily small particle size. Preferred compositions additionally include a silicone resin. The compositions further include an appropriate aggregate filler material such as sand. Compositions according to the invention are characterized by a thixotropic nature and the ability to maintain an aggregate in matrix like suspension. A film cast from such compositions applied as a sealing coat to an asphalt pavement is characterized by long life, uniform filler distribution, and excellent bonding characteristics.
