    Abstract: The external trap for the small hive beetle A. tumida is composed of an opened on top plywood box and a grid of metal sheet with holes closes the box. The grid can be removed for inspection. Two angle aluminum hang the trap to the front wall of the beehive to catch the larva when it leaves the hive for pupation. The grid addresses the larvae inside the box filled with ground and nematodes that destroy them.

The user device may allow the user to display interactive plots of the activity values over a variety of time bases. The disclosed beehive monitoring system relies on relatively lost-cost hardware and requires neither modification to the hive nor special constraints on the placement of the camera.

    Abstract: A container for a nucleus hive of bees is provided including a box having a polygonal shaped bottom and a plurality of side walls. Each one of the plurality of side walls extends upwardly from an edge of the polygonal shaped bottom. A side edge of each side wall is attached to a side edge of an adjacent side wall and upper edges of the side walls form an opening. The opening has an area larger than the area of the polygonal shaped bottom and a shape substantially corresponding to the polygonal shaped bottom. A hive frame support means is positioned on inner wall surfaces of a plurality of the side walls. A polygonal shaped removable lid is configured to rest upon and cover the opening. The box and lid are preferably formed from a rigid commodity grade plastic material.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a novel queen monitoring cage system comprising a housing having a plurality of holes to provide ventilation, at least one egg laying plate, serving as an inner wall of the cage. The egg laying plate includes a plurality of hexagonal cells, and one or more ports to allow materials to be added to the housing. Additional embodiments of the system provides a removable drawer for the insertion and removal of bees, and inserts to prevent escape of bees while egg laying plates are added and removed. Experimental results show that the queen monitoring cage can be used to study queen egg laying behavior under laboratory controlled conditions.

    Abstract: An improved fume board and methods related to the same are provided. An improved fume board employing a motorized fan to quickly and uniformly deliver repellant throughout a honey super to result in near complete clearance of bees from the honey super in an efficient manner without significant disruption to the bee hive. The improved fume board box has a top entry portal and fan-blower connecting mechanism which allow for the incorporation of various small, battery powered fan-blowers currently available on the market. The small fan-blower generates a steady, low-volume air-flow that mixes air with bee repellant, which is then evenly distributed down into the honey super. The low-volume air-flow significantly increases repellant dispersal without agitating or intoxicating the bees, and without the additional danger of injuring bees. By effectively controlling the dispersal of repellant and preserving the environment inside the honey super, beekeepers can quickly and efficiently evacuate bees from supers prior to honey extraction.

    Abstract: One embodiment of a thin movable guide (30) consisting of a vertical panel (6) with hexagonal penetrations (8), and midribs (20) placed in the hive to bisect the hive while lying parallel with the comb frames (26) such that all components can be moved from or within the hive with a minimum of disturbance to the colony of bees housed therein. The guide (30) can be used singly or in multiples to maintain bee-space by inserting it between or in place of one or more of the frames (26). The device guides bees to produce regular shaped and spaced wax comb while permitting movement of bee castes between combs. When used side-by-side in groups (38) the guide (30) reduces tendencies for overcrowding leading to swarming while allowing the free movement of bees within the created space to keep the hive clean.
