    Abstract: A stabilizer bar system for an automotive vehicle includes a stabilizer bar having a circular cross section and a rigid sleeve applied to a section of the outer circumference of the stabilizer bar. The sleeve has a number of circumferentially extending grooves and lands which mate with corresponding grooves and lands formed in an inner cylindrical surface of an elastomeric bushing which is overlaid upon the sleeve. The elastomeric bushing and sleeve may be mated such that relative rotation is allowed at the interface of the bushing and sleeve. Alternatively, the bushing and sleeve may be locked so that no relative rotation may occur at the interface of the bushing and sleeve.

    Abstract: An end link is provided for a stabilizer bar of a vehicle suspension system. The end link includes a rod having pairs of grommets generally at each end thereof. Each grommet includes a bushing and washer which are interengaged and rotatable with respect to each other. Each grommet further includes a central passageway that which the rod is disposed within and permits pivotal movement of the rod only substantially in a single plane relative to the grommets and permits substantially universal pivotal movement of the rod around the center of the grommets. The end link can also include a like rod having a pair of universal ball joint structures generally at each end thereof. Each structure includes a universal ball which is integrally formed with a spacer, a bushing and a washer. The bushing is rotatable with respect to the washer. Each structure further includes a central passageway that which the rod is disposed within and permits pivotal movement of the rod only substantially in a single plane relative to the structures and permits substantially universal pivotal movement of the rod around the center of the structures.

    Abstract: A bushing assembly for use in a suspension of an automotive vehicle. The bushing assembly is comprised of inner and outer cylinder members which are coaxial and spaced from each other. An elastic member and a rigid sleeve member are disposed between the inner and outer cylinder members. A sliding member is disposed between the inner cylinder member and the rigid sleeve member in order to reduce torsion spring effect of the elastic member. The sliding member is prevented from its axial displacement upon contacting with a radially outwardly extending retainer section formed in the inner cylinder member. Additionally, a generally cap-shaped seal rubber is provided to accomplish seal between the end section of the rigid sleeve member and the end section of the inner cylinder member. The seal rubber is located outside the inner cylinder member retainer section and spaced from the outer peripheral part of the inner cylinder member retainer section, thereby reducing resistance in relative rotation between the inner and outer cylinder members maintaining effective seal.

    Abstract: An improved pivot joint has a rotatable and tiltable stud. A rotational preload force is applied to the stud by a bearing which is circumferentially stressed in tension to apply a clamping force to the stud. This clamping force resists rotation of the stud relative to a housing until a predetermined minimum rotational force is applied to the stud. A tilting or sidewise preload force is applied to the stud by a resiliently compressible bushing which is disposed between the bearing and the housing. Since the tilting preload force is applied to the stud by the bushing, the bearing can be designed to provide an optimum rotational preload force without regard to tilting preload force design considerations. Similarly, the bushing can be designed to provide optimum tilting preload forces without regard to design considerations influenced by the rotational preload forces. The pivot joint is advantageously assembled by resiliently expanding the bearing, moving the stud into alignment with the bearing then releasing the bearing so that it contracts part way back to its initial condition. The diameter of the stud surface engaged by the bearing is large enough so that the bearing cannot fully retract back to its initial condition. This results in tension stresses being set up in the bearing so that it applies a clamping force against the stud to hold it against rotation. In one embodiment of the invention the bearing is provided with projections which limit sideward tilting movement of the stud.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a ball joint to use without supplying oil in a torque rod of an automobile, in a mechanism for connecting brackets fitted to the chassis of an automobile, brackets fitted to a wheel axle supporting member and torque rods connecting the said brackets, in which a spherical bearing ring made of strong synthetic resin, for example an acetal resin such as Delrin or the like is provided inside a bearing housing to support a shaft having a spherical ball portion fixed to the said bracket adhering onto the central periphery of the said ball portion, oil-containing fabrics are provided on the both sides of the said spherical bearing ring adhering onto the periphery of the said ball portion, and the said bearing housing is connected to a boss of the torque rod.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThis invention relates to a ball joint to use without supplying oil in a torque rod of an automobile.Heretofore, a ball joint has generally been used for a torque rod interposed between a wheel axle of a heavy vehicle having a double-axle rear wheel arrangement and a chassis thereof thereby to automatically adjust to the movement of the wheel axle relative to the chassis while the vehicle is running on rough or uneven roads. A ball joint in a torque rod should be simple in its construction so as to be easily produced, and it should be smoothly operated and be capable of being used for a long period of time without being supplied with any further oil, and further its life should be semipermanent.The first object of the present invention is to provide a ball joint which can satisfy the above requirements.When a strong impulsive force is instantaneously imparted to wheels, wheel axles and torque rods e.g. at the time of braking, a conventional ball joint takes the complete shock, and the shock acts directly on a shaft having a spherical ball portion and a bearing metal. This results in damage or a large degree of wear on the ball portion of the shaft, the bearing metal and/or torque rod, and also damage to the bracket.The second object of the present invention is to eliminate the above defects by interposing an elastic band made of a strong elastic substance such as rubber or synthetic resin between a bearing housing and a torque rod.The load given to the elastic band by the abovementioned impulsive force is extremely large in comparison with the ordinary vibrating load of anti-vibration rubber. Therefore the deformation induced by the load in this case is remarkably large. Accordingly, when an elastic band of conventional shape is used, the exposed surfaces of the band swell due to the load compression and rub with the housing portion to cause damage to the ball joint.The third object of the present invention is to eliminate the above drawbacks by forming the exposed surfaces of the elastic band into a parabolic shape, i.e. a deeply recessed shape.The other objects and the feature of the present invention will be apparent by a few examples embodying the present invention described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
