摘要： A data reading apparatus for reading and/or scanning data from a first and second scanned medium comprising a first transportation path P1, along which the first scanned medium is conveyed and a second transportation path P2, along which the second scanned medium is conveyed and wherein the first and second transportation paths each have a common mutually shared middle transportation path through which both scanned media must pass and a common data reader reading data from each scanned medium respectively. Checks S are conveyed on the first transportation path P1, cards C are conveyed on the second transportation path P2 at a different transportation height from that of the first transportation path P1 with data read from the respective media as they are being conveyed. Because the transportation heights differ, scanned media can be transported on different transportation paths without involving special switching devices.

The multi-function printer may include a paper handling assembly and a floating scanner assembly pivotably coupled to the paper handling assembly. The floating scanner assembly is coupled to and aligned with a pick roller portion of the paper handling assembly and configured to scan and/or otherwise operate on a media supported within a document feeder. Thus, the multi-function printer may provide a wide variety of functionalities while maintaining a desirable compact configuration and portability.

摘要： In a facsimile machine in which a reading conveying path and a recording conveying path are commonly shared, when an attempt is made to send a facsimile in the midst of receiving the facsimile, the transmitting of a facsimile is enable to be rapidly performed. Included are reading means for reading an original; communication means for transmitting/receiving an image data; first accumulating means for accumulating an received image data in a memory; recording means for recording the image data following the memory; transmitting instruction means for instructing the transmitting of the original; and a medium conveying mechanism being a conveying mechanism common for the original and a recording sheet. Further the reading means performs a reading operation of the original to be transmitted based on an instruction of transmitting instruction means precedently than performance of a recording operation of the received image data by the recording means in case the transmitting instruction means issues an instruction for transmitting the original when the communication means receives the image data and a memory accumulating operation of the received imaged data by first accumulating means.

摘要： An image scanner and image scanning method to reliably image scanned media in an image scanning apparatus with consistent quality. The image scanning apparatus may be included within a printer 10 for printing to the medium. The image scanning apparatus comprises a transportation mechanism for transporting a card C along a transportation path 41 from an insertion opening 41 and an image sensor 44 to image the card on the transportation path 41. Guide walls 54 guide the card C into alignment with the transportation path 41. The transportation mechanism conveys the card C in a forward direction toward the image sensor 44 to a specified indexing position, and then in reverse toward the insertion opening 41a. The image sensor 44 images the card C as the card C is transported in reverse from the indexing position. The card C is then discharged from the card insertion opening 41a.

摘要： An output apparatus comprises a recording sheet conveying section having two feeder portions; a reader section for reading information which has been outputted onto a recording sheet; and an output section for outputting information onto a recording sheet. The apparatus determines whether a sheet set in a feeder portion is a print sheet or an original document, and performs reading and/or recording in accordance with the determination and/or an application being executed. The apparatus further has a memory for storing information which has been outputted onto a sheet and a comparator for comparing the information stored in the memory with the information read from the sheet by the reading section. Based on the comparison, the apparatus determines a proper manner (i.e., proper output position and orientation of the data) to output information onto the other side of the sheet, and also selects information to be outputted.
