Abstract:
An optical switching device comprises: a light guide including a total reflection plane capable of totally reflecting light thereby transmitting the light; a switching part capable of, at a position where its extraction plane is in close contact with the total reflection plane, capturing evanescent light and reflecting the captured light thereby outputting it; and a driving part for driving the optical switching part. The light guide, the switching part, and the driving part are laminated in this order into a multilayer structure. The employment of the multilayer structure makes it possible to optimize the respective layers independently of one another. The extracted light does not pass through the driving part. This allows the driving part to be optimized so as to achieve an optical switching device capable of operating at a high speed with low power consumption. Thus, it is possible to provide a low-loss and high-contrast optical switching device using an evanescent wave, which can respond at a high speed.
Abstract:
A flexible pipe connector having a first cylindrical member defining an annular restricting groove and a radial-expansion restricting portion, a second cylindrical member defining an annular attachment groove, and a retaining member fitted to the annular attachment groove, the radial-expansion restricting portion restricting a radial-expansion of the retaining member via contact with the retaining member in a radial direction so as to prevent a withdrawing movement of the retaining member from the annular attachment groove, wherein the second cylindrical member is configured to be inserted into the first cylindrical member and withdrawal of the retaining member permits removal of the first cylindrical member from the second cylindrical member.
Abstract:
In a bending apparatus for glass sheets, at least some of distances between conveyor rolls are set so as to be unequal, forming glass sheets having good quality and free from optical distortion. For the purpose, the distances between conveyor rolls which are provided from an outlet of a heating furnace are set so as to be unequal and to gradually expand toward a downstream direction.
Abstract:
The focus detection mechanism of the invention diffracts the return light reflected off target surface by means of holographic element. The diffracted beams are both received by two long photodetection means as two astigmatic convergent beams that forms circles of least confusion on the same plane near focal plane of a lens. The focus detection signal is obtained from differential output of them. Since the mechanism can form two diffracted beams having circles of least confusion on the same plane, the photodetection means for detection can be disposed side by side, thus simplifying production with increased dimensional accuracy. Also, although a holographic element is used, wavelength fluctuation can be absorbed to provide extremely high reliability.

Abstract:
A run length code decoder, constructed to reduce the number of times of memory access to attain a high speed operation, decodes a run length code such as a modified Huffman code in a facsimile machine. It determines a memory address to be read next from a memory which contains a decode table for the run length code by a result of an arithmetic operation of a predetermined address of the memory, a content at the predetermined address and a next data derived from an input code.
