Abstract: Methods, systems, and media for detecting the presence of a digital media device on a network are provided. In some embodiments, methods for detecting a presence of a particular type of digital media device is provided, the methods comprising: identifying cached device details for devices previously associated with the network; performing a simple device discovery protocol (SSDP) on the network, and substantially concurrently sending a unicast message to an address associated with the identified cached digital media device using hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP); and indicating the presence of a digital media device on the network in response to either (i) receiving a response to the unicast message, or (ii) determining that a type of a device discovered using SSDP is the same as the particular device type.

Abstract: In accordance with some implementations of the disclosed subject matter, mechanisms for providing a remote control interface are provided. In some implementations, a method for providing a remote control interface is provided, the method comprising: receiving an image of a user input interface associated with a media playback device; identifying the user input interface from a plurality of user input interfaces based on image recognition; determining a code library associated with the identified user input interface; and transmitting the code library to a mobile device that provided the image of the user input interface, wherein the code library allows a mobile device to control the media playback device.

Abstract: A process identifies a search query spike from queries submitted by users during a first span of time, which is less than a predefined duration. The spike corresponds to a set of queries identified as equivalent. The frequency of submitting queries from the set during the first time span exceeds the frequency of submitting queries from the set during an average span of time. The process correlates the spike to a broadcast video program by matching terms from the set of search queries to subtitle terms appearing in the video program at a first location. The first location in the video program was broadcast within a predefined time before the first span of time. The process receives notification from a user device indicating user interest in the video program. The process transmits to the user device search results corresponding to some search queries from the set of search queries.

Abstract: Systems and methods for bookmarking prospective media content on computer network. In some implementations, a method includes: at a server system, obtaining, from a electronic device, information corresponding to a media content item; identifying the media content item, from among a plurality of media content items, in accordance with the information; creating a provisional bookmark corresponding to a first URL where the media content item is not yet available but is likely to be available within a predefined time period; and transmitting the provisional bookmark to the electronic device. The method optionally includes: after creating the provisional bookmark, in accordance with a determination that the media content item has become available at the first URL, before the predefined time period: converting the provisional bookmark into a non-provisional bookmark.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and media for presenting supplemental information corresponding to on-demand media content are provided. In some implementations, the method comprises: receiving an indication from a web browser extension executing within a web browsing application that a media content item is being presented on a content provider website; identifying the media content item being presented on the content provider website; determining whether supplemental content associated with the broadcasted media content item is available; in response to determining that the supplemental content is available, causing the web browser extension to present an indicator that the supplemental content is available; obtaining the supplemental content corresponding to the broadcasted media content item, wherein each piece of the supplemental content is associated with timing information of the broadcasted media content item; and causing a portion of the obtained supplemental content to be presented concurrently with the media content item in response to detecting that the indicator has been selected.

In some implementations, a method for providing media guidance is provided, the method comprising: receiving a request for supplemental content relating to a program being presented by a media device; causing a content interface to be presented on a mobile device; identifying the program that is being presented on a media device; determining keywords associated with the program, wherein each of the keywords is associated with a particular portion of the program; obtaining and storing supplemental content items corresponding to the program based on the keywords; causing the content interface to present a first supplemental content item; receiving state information associated with the mobile device that indicates a subsequent visit to the content interface; and causing the content interface to present a second supplemental content item based on the state information.
