    摘要: A solar collector assembly comprises a plurality of heater collection tubes. A thermal enhancement manifold assembly is integrated into the solar collector assembly to enhance thermal efficiency. The enhancement manifold assembly includes a supply manifold subassembly which selectively distributes a refrigerant between at least two supply manifolds and a return manifold subassembly which distributes the refrigerant between at least two return manifolds. A thermal enhancing tube provides fluid communication between each supply manifold and respective return manifold. The thermal enhancing tubes are assembled within an interior volume of the solar heater collection tubes. Each manifold pairing is operatively governed by a respective fluid control valve. The manifold pairings alternate between an active state and an inactive state, optimizing thermal transfer between the collection tube and a refrigerant. The refrigerant is retained within an inactive tube set of thermal enhancing tubes and flows therethrough in an active tube set.

    摘要: A portable refrigeration unit is described. The unit has a body and a lid. The body has an outer housing and an insulated interior container that is thermally insulated from the outer housing. The insulated interior container has a bottom surface and at least one sidewall forming a cavity for receiving an article to be stored therein The lid has an outer surface and an inner surface and the lid is insulated. There is at least one solar collector on at least a portion of the outer surface of the lid. This solar collector provides electrical power to one or more cooling units and to one or more rechargeable batteries. The cooling units include an interior and an exterior heat sink, and an interior and exterior fan and an interior and exterior vent. Air in the cavity at a first temperature passes from the cavity through the interior vent to the interior heat sink where heat in the air is transferred to the exterior heat sink and where the air at a second lower temperature is transmitted by the interior fan back into said cavity. Ambient air passes through the exterior vent so that the heat in the exterior heat sink is transmitted from the exterior heat sink to the air and the air is discharged by said exterior fan.

    摘要: A new and improved heat powered heat pump system and method of making same is provided. More particularly, the present invention relates to a heat powered heat pump system which uses standard commonly available refrigerant fluids, supplements pressurizing the refrigerant fluid by use of an external available heat source, enables selective switching between heating or cooling modes, and utilizes a thermal four-chambered compressor having a double piston head that is partially powered by an external heat source. Since the heat powered heat pump system may be made in various sizes and configurations, it may be utilized to cool and heat the interior of vehicles using waste engine heat and an initializing battery powered heating element to provide for immediate heating and cooling. The heat powered heat pump system attains better efficiency than current systems employed for the same purpose because of its capability to use a heat source such as a solar collector, waste heat from a generator, vehicle engine or power plant, various types of fuel cells, and a gas-fired or electrical heating element to power the four-chambered thermal compressor.

    摘要: A cooling method and system are provided wherein a stream of relatively wet warm air is passed in contact with a liquid hygroscopic material in a water cooled absorbent zone to produce a stream of relatively cool dry air. The latter is then passed through an evaporative cooling zone in contact with water and the resulting cooled air or water is used as a cooling or refrigerating medium. A portion of the cooled water is used to cool the absorbent zone to an extent that the dried stream of air has a greater capacity to evaporatively cool the water than it would have in the absence of such cooling, thereby permitting the production of desired stream of cool, dry air. The relatively wet liquid hygroscopic material resulting from the drying of the air as above mentioned, is then passed as a film through a heating zone wherein it is exposed to solar heat or other low level heat to evaporate absorbed water from the hygroscopic material with the evaporated water being swept away from the film by a stream of ambient air which is ultimately discharged to the atmosphere.A method and apparatus are also provided for contacting a gas and a liquid to facilitate a mass exchange therebetween, especially when the volume of the liquid is small compared to that of the gas and where extensive contact between the liquid and gas is necessary to achieve the desired mass exchange. Also, provision is made for removing heat from the liquid during its contact with the gas. Thus, a plurality of finned heat exchangers are stacked, one above the other, and the liquid to be contacted is fed onto the upper heat exchanger at one end thereof so that it is free to flow along the vertical surfaces of the fins.
