    Abstract: A catheter system may include a catheter assembly, which may include a catheter adapter and a catheter. The catheter system may include a needle assembly, which may include a barrel, an introducer needle, a needle hub affixed to the introducer needle, and a spring disposed around the needle hub. The needle assembly may include a push button for selective engagement with the needle hub, and a distally-extending arm contacting the barrel. The needle hub may include a distally-extending arm forming a push button within a side hole of the barrel. The needle assembly may include a telescopic barrel, which may include an inner sleeve having a distally-extending arm forming a push button within a side hole of a main barrel. The needle assembly may include a lever arm coupled to the barrel. In response to depression of the lever arm, the lever arm may release a flexible extension of the needle hub.

    Abstract: A device, system, and method for aseptic skin treatment and disinfection of medical connectors comprising a pad soaked with a disinfectant material, the pad having a distal face and a proximal face, a handle associated with the proximal face of the pad, the handle configured for grasping by a user to assist in manipulation of the pad for pressing and scrubbing the distal face of the pad against a surface of the skin. According to one design, an opening extends through a portion of the distal face of the pad and at least partially into a body of the pad. The opening can receive at least an end portion of the medical connector therein to disinfect the end portion of the medical connector. Alternatively the pad can be formed from a soft material capable of deforming about the end portion of the medical connector.

    Abstract: Integrated light interrogation modules are provided. In embodiments, the subject integrated light interrogation modules include a flow cell having a light-accessible flow channel for transporting particles in a flow stream, a focusing optical assembly integrated with the flow cell, and a connector for operably attaching a fiber optic light conveyor to the focusing optical assembly, where the focusing optical assembly is projects excitation wavelength light from the fiber optic light conveyor onto a focal spot of the flow cell when the fiber optic light conveyor is operably attached to the connector.     Abstract: A needle protection device may include a hub, a housing disposed within the lumen of the hub, and a needle. The housing may include a tubular portion, which may include two arms coupled thereto. Each of the arms may include a first end coupled to the tubular portion, a second end disposed within the tubular portion, and a bent portion therebetween. The second end of the first arm and the second end of the second arm may form a duckbill valve. A needle may extend through the housing. Withdrawing a sharp distal tip of the needle in a proximal direction beyond the second end of each of the arms may close the duckbill valve and facilitate removal of the housing from the hub. Shielding the sharp distal tip of the needle in this manner may prevent blood spatter and exposure to blood and blood-borne pathogens.

    Abstract: A silicone septum having a surface coating. The coated silicone septum may be incorporated in an intravenous catheter assembly. The coating reduces static charge among a plurality of vibrating silicone septa during manufacture of the intravenous catheter assembly. The surface coating includes a coating agent selected from a bicarbonate salt and a siloxane polyalkyleneoxide copolymer. The bicarbonate salt may be an alkali metal bicarbonate. The siloxane polyalkyleneoxide copolymer may include copolymer groups selected from ethyleneoxide, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane, and mixtures thereof. The silicon septum may be coated by contacting an exterior surface of the silicone septum with a coating solution of a solvent and the coating agent for at least 5 minutes. The coating agent has a concentration in the solvent greater than 1 wt. %. Excess coating solution is removed from the exterior surface of the silicone septum. The exterior surface is dried to remove the solvent, forming the surface coating.
