    Abstract: An auto-feed paper shredder operates by using counter-rotating belts to grasp sheets of paper from the bottom of a stack of paper and push the sheet into a shredding mechanism. Successive sheets are pulled from the stack and shredded so that an entire stack of several hundred sheets can be shredded without operator intervention. The belts that accomplish the auto-feeding are housed in roller belt assemblies that can be easily removed from and reinserted into the paper shredder. In this way when the belts become worn and no longer effectively grasp the paper, the user simply removes the assembly and inserts a new one. The worn assemblies can be returned to the manufacturer to be refurbished.

    Abstract: A paper shredder having shredder cover and a motor coupled to shredder blades includes a shredder throat in proximity to shredder blades. The shredder throat has a moveable blade, and a fixed blade. A cam coupled to the moveable blade is in communication with a power switch plunger. When the shredder is in the NORMAL/ON position, a throat gap is in its normal position and the cam positions the plunger to power to the motor. When the shredder is in the JAM CLEAR/OFF position, the throat gap is in its wide position and the cam positions the plunger to remove power to the motor. A method is provided, including providing a moveable blade; sensing a throat jammed condition; releasing the moveable blade; moving the moveable blade to a wide gap position; sensing the moveable blade in the wide gap position; turning off the motor in response to the sensing.

    Abstract: The present invention is a pump used for applications where a solid is present in wastewater and other liquids that requires cutting and reduction in size so as to pass the solid through the inlet to the outlet of the pump. The pump has a pump casing with an inlet and an outlet formed therein. A drive unit rotates a drive shaft extending axially through the pump casing to an impeller and a cutter bar. The pump is further configured with a radial cutter ring assembly positioned adjacent the cutter bar and the inlet providing a shredding cutting action of solids between the rotating cutter bar sliding past a radial cutter ring assembly held stationary, e.g. cutting blades formed in an edge of the cutter bar rotate across an internal surface of the radial cutter ring assembly. The pump also has an axial cutter ring assembly with one or more blades forming openings adapted for the passage of solids from the inlet to the outlet to provide a shearing cutting action of solids by a rotation of an upper surface of the cutter bar sliding past an axial cutting surface of the blades of the axial cutter ring assembly. The shred and shear pump may be configured with a plurality of slots on the internal surface of the radial cutter ring assembly (101) to hold woven fibrous material for the shredding cutting action. The pump also features improved optimized flow, cutting and reducing solids in the form of woven fibrous materials, and adjustability of the cutter housing for precision and wear adjustment.

    Abstract: A shredding machine for domestic or office use having a feed passage 3 leading to a cutting mechanism 10, 11 powered by an electric motor, has a thickness measuring device 15 for measuring the thickness of bundles of paper fed through the feed passage and the machine is controlled by a microprocessor which receives signals from the thickness measuring device and prevents the cutting mechanism from being energised if the thickness measured is above a threshold determined by the microprocessor. The thickness gauging device is deactivated during shredding until the material is shredded so that rippling or flapping of the material within the feed passage will not cause false readings as to the amount of material inserted into the feed passage.
