Abstract:
Control arrangement for a cursor (140) on a screen or a display for a computer (130), comprising a hand unit (10) with two sensing elements (20, 30) adapted to be applied on two of the fingers of the user, suitably along the thumb and forefinger, where the intersecting point (80) between the sensing elements controls the position of the cursor. The sensing elements are connected to a processing unit for the determination of the intersecting point between the threads when they are situated next to each other and for the control of the position of the cursor according to this intersecting point.
Abstract:
The method is for entering data into a computer device. A wearable device (10) is attaching to a hand (212). The device (10) has a lower unit (14) placed in a palm (106) of the hand and an upper unit (16) placed behind knuckles (17) of the hand and connected to the lower unit (14). A sensor (202) has transducers (260, 262, 264, 266, 268) in operative engagement with fingers (250, 252, 254, 256, 258). The sensor (202) has a position sensor (210) associated with an electronic cursor or sign (211) displayed on a screen (213). The fingers and/or hand are moved to switch the sensor (202) from a keyboard mode to a mouse mode. The hand (212) is shifted in a first direction to move the cursor (211) in the first direction on the screen (213).
Abstract:
A computer input system is disclosed that utilizes a glove-type multiple styli device that is mapped for operation based on their finger position. The input system can further include a digitizing tablet, such as one using MRAM cells.
Abstract:
An ergonomic pointing device is disclosed. The ergonomic pointing device includes a holder mounted to a finger on a users hand and a pointing implement mounted to the holder. The user manipulates the ergonomic pointing device to bring the pointing implement into contact with a device to initiate an action in the device. Optionally, a holster can be connected with the holder to mount the pointing implement on the holder. The pointing implement can be movable in the holder and/or the holster. The holster can be removably connected with the holder. The ergonomic pointing device allows a user to interface with a device without having to use the hand to hold a stylus or the like. The holder can be mounted on the finger using an adhesive and portions of the ergonomic pointing device can be disposable while other portions can be recyclable.
Abstract:
A new tracking technique is essentially nullsourcelessnull in that it can be used anywhere with no set-up, yet it enables a much wider range of virtual environment-style navigation and interaction techniques than does a simple head-orientation tracker. A sourceless head orientation tracker is combined with a head-worn tracking device that tracks a hand-mounted 3D beacon relative to the head. The system encourages use of intuitive interaction techniques which exploit proprioception.
Abstract:
A signaling arrangement and method for use in a wireless local area network managed by a system manager include a reader for electro-optically reading bar code symbols. The system manager verifies that a symbol has been successfully read and sends an acknowledgment signal by wireless, radio frequency transmission to a remote indicator operative for generating an alert signal noticeable to a user.
Abstract:
An imager (12) having a field of view extending along three orthogonal axes detects positions (37) of a data appliance manipulated by a person in the field of view, detects the value of a toggle property (42, 72) of the data appliance manipulated by the person, and outputs a signal (13) which is equivalent to the position, left click, and right click signals from a computer mouse.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for human interface with a computer is disclosed. The system comprises a member adapted to reside on a finger of a computer user; light emitting means disposed on the member; a camera operatively connected to the computer and adapted to view the member and the light emitting means; and means for converting a color viewed by the camera into a control signal for the computer. The light emitting means may be adapted to emit a first color when the member is in a first position, and a second color when the member is in a second position.
Abstract:
A means for a handheld functional apparatus having an operating device, where the apparatus either has a display screen, e.g., of the LCD type, integrated therein or has a communications link to a remote display screen. The operating device has a control element which via an interface is adapted to at least two-dimensionally control a cursor that is freely movable on the display screen in order to carry out at least one of the following operations: to move the cursor towards an optional one of several function icons, in order on actuating the control element to select an icon and thus an icon-related function in the apparatus; to navigate in a menu on the screen by using the cursor, to effect selection and confirmation of various menu options associated with apparatus functions; to open and close folders/files; to effect the carrying-out of apparatus functions; to handle the selection of numbers, symbols and letters, optionally via a keyboard displayed on the screen; and to manipulate or move at least some of the data or other information displayed on the screen at any time.
Abstract:
An information input device worn on a user's body or finger, an information processing device and an information input method are provided. The information input device which is capable of being worn on a user's body includes a distance sensing unit which senses changes in distance between a predetermined portion and another predetermined portion of the user's body according to the extent of bending of the user's body joint; and a signal processing unit which determines and processes information input items from the distance sensed by the distance sensing unit.
