    摘要: In one embodiment, a system for modifying ice adhesion strength of ice adhered to an object. The system includes an electrode that is electrically insulated from the object and a DC source, e.g., a battery coupled to the object and the electrode. The source generates a DC bias to an interference between the ice and the object when the ice completes the circuit. The system preferably includes an electrically insulating material disposed-between the object and the electrode. In another embodiment, a coating comprising a ferroelectric, lossy dielectric, ferromagnetic or semiconductor material is applied to a object. Electromagnetic energy causes the coating to generate heat, which melts snow and ice.

The controller (34) utilizes the coefficient of resistivity information and determines the temperature of the heaters based upon determining the resistance of the heaters. With the inventive system, the heater control is based upon the ambient temperature and a determination of the desired heater resistance corresponding to a desired heater temperature.

    摘要: In a millimeter wave de-icing system for the front areas of exposed shell structures, at least one independently operable millimeter wave generator is disposed in each shell structure closely adjacent the surfaces of the shell structure to be de-iced or kept free of ice and uncoupling structures are flanged to the microwave generators and have uncoupling openings disposed along the areas of the shell structure to be heated so as to provide a millimeter wave front directed toward this area. The area subjected to the wavefront includes walls of a dielectric composite material with a metallic skin whereby the millimeter wave front penetrates the wall and at least partially is converted into heat within the wall of composite material thereby providing for rapid and effective heat supply to the wall areas of the shell structure to be kept free of ice.

    摘要: A system of interconnected heating conductors, suitable for preventing freezing of water lines in an aircraft for example, includes a plurality of heater units (1, 12, 14) electrically coupled together by respective extension cables (3) and electrical coupling elements (42). Each heater unit comprises one or more heating conductor bands, tapes or strips (2, 21, 22) connected to respective connection modules (5, 51, 52, 52', 53) at the ends thereof. The connection modules may connect together several heater bands within one heater unit, and may connect the terminal ends of the heater bands of one heater unit to the extension cables by which several respective heater units may be connected together. Each connection module includes a housing (6) enclosing an inner chamber (61) therein, and at least one electrical connector element (7) such as a crimpable connector fixed within the housing (6). The respective conductors of the heater bands (2) and of the extension cables (3) extend into the housing through lead-in openings (64) and are connected together within the housing (6) by the respective connector elements (7). A complete and reliable seal against moisture penetration is achieved by injecting a sealing compound (19) into a fill hole through the housing wall, so that the inner chamber (61) of the housing (6) is completely filled with the sealing compound (19). The sealing effect eliminates capillary action even when subjected to vibrations, shock, temperature variations, and low pressure conditions. The assembly of the connection modules is simple and economical.
