摘要:
In a dynamic shoulder joint orthesis a compensation mechanism is provided between a spring (30) and a support rod (25) to compensate for a change in spring force which occurs when the upper arm splint (9) is pivoted, such that the force to be applied to pivot the upper arm splint (9) in the adduction direction and/or in the abduction direction remains at least approximately the same over the entire pivoting range.

A shoulder immobilizer (20) includes a semi-rigid or rigid orthosis, in the form of an arm support (22), which supports the upper arm, elbow, forearm and wrist of a patient. A bolster (24) is positioned between the patient and the arm support (22). A body strap (26) extends around the patient and attaches to the arm support (22) and/or the bolster (24), holding the arm support and bolster in position against the body of the patient. In embodiments, the shoulder immobilizer (20) may utilize a shoulder strap (28), but such a shoulder strap is not necessary for shoulder immobilization of the patient.

A magnetic arm sling for immobilizing the arm of a patient. The magnetic arm sling includes an abdominal strap with a magnetically attractive member and an arm support with a magnetically attractive member. The arm support is worn on the patient's arm. The magnetically attractive member of the abdominal strap and the magnetically attractive member of the arm support form a magnetic bond to immobilizes the patient's arm. An abduction pillow with one or more magnetically attractive members may also be used with the magnetic arm sling.

The invention is an underarm support for one or both arms having a pad which fits under the arm of the user, preferably in the arm pit, flexible and of sufficient diameter under compression at that area to open the arm outward for greater blood flow and to more correctly position the arm. In order to assist in lifting the arm at the armpit and to secure the pad in place, a strap fits over one or both shoulders and passes around the torso from the should strap above the underarm. In the preferred embodiment, the strap fits over the shoulder directly above the arm to be lifted. A second strap travels around the torso of the user in order to hold the pad in place. The pad is preferably flexible at least the same width as the underarm of the user.

An orthosis for the upper body is provided for controlling the shoulder and the arm. The orthosis employs a connection between the waist band and the upper part of the orthosis, specifically a lateral upright, which has two linked joints. Preferably, the lower joint is attached centrally to the waist band and is a spherical zone joint which accommodates bending at the waist and variation in the shape of the torso. The second joint is a pivot joint which accommodates rotation about an axis parallel to the long axis of the lateral upright upon the lower end of which, preferably, it is mounted.

An improved orthosis provides mobilization of the shoulder joint and arm in a wide variety of clinically useful positions and also optional controlled movement of the forearm over a selectable range in the vertical plane. The orthosis has waist securing and harness means for securing it to the human body. A rise and fall mount attached to a waistband supports a pivoting slide and a forearm support assembly which includes a hand support. An arrangement of slides and adjustable securing means is so disposed as to allow the shoulder orthosis to be configured rapidly, easily and in a continuously variable manner for rigid, stable immobilization following injury or surgery.

An orthopedic pillow device for supporting and immobilizing a patient's arm relative to a patient's shoulder is disclosed comprising a portable, L-shaped, reversible, pillow and a plurality of straps for attaching and securing the pillow to both the patient's upper torso and arm. The pillow is selectively attached to one of the patient's right arm and left arm and the patient's upper torso, for providing support and cushioning for both a lower and upper portion of the arm selected for support and for providing abduction of the arm selected for support with respect to the upper torso for reducing shoulder joint stress. The securing means is comprised of a removable shoulder strap, waist strap, forearm band, and upper arm strap.

An orthopaedic shoulder brace that is adapted to evenly distribute weight onto a patient's waist and hip is disclosed. The shoulder brace includes a first anatomically-conforming shell having an upper curved portion for comfortably fitting around a right side of the waist of a user, and having a lower curved portion for comfortably fitting onto the right hip of the user. A second anatomically-conforming shell is also included which has an upper curved portion for comfortably fitting around a left side of the waist of the user, and which has a lower curved portion for comfortably fitting onto the left hip of the user. A strap connects the front portions of the first anatomically-conforming shell and the second anatomically-conforming shell, and a joining shell connects the back portions of the two shells. The joining shell is rotatably connected to the first anatomically-conforming shell at a first joint and rotatably connected to the second anatomically-conforming shell at a second joint. These two joints allow the first and second anatomically-conforming shells to rotate to accommodate the varying hip sizes of different users. Additionally, a scapulary panel is disclosed for applying pressure to the scapula near the injured shoulder of the user. The scapulary panel is adjustable across an area of the user's back.
