Abstract:
An electrical wire includes at least one electrifiable conductor, and a return conductor formed around the at least one electrifiable conductor, such that the at least one electrifiable conductor is completely entrapped by the return conductor.
Abstract:
In order to provide a flexible oxide superconducting cable which is reduced in AC loss, tape-shaped superconducting wires covered with a stabilizing metal are wound on a flexible former. The superconducting wires are preferably laid on the former at a bending strain of not more than 0.2%. In laying on the former, a number of tape-shaped superconducting wires are laid on a core member in a side-by-side manner, to form a first layer. A prescribed number of tape-shaped superconducting wires are laid on top of the first layer in a side-by-side manner, to form a second layer. The former may be made of a metal, plastic, reinforced plastic, polymer, or a composite and provides flexibility to the superconducting wires and the cable formed therewith.
Abstract:
Apparatus for stress relieving multistranded cable includes a rotatable cradle of a double twist strander which carries a plurality of guide sheaves, a dual wheel capstan, and a take-up reel and a pay-off reel arranged to substantially reduce the length of the path of travel of the advancing cable and to impart stress relieving rotation and tension to the advancing cable. After the cable has been payed off of a stationary pay-off reel, it is advanced to a pair of metering sheaves to fix the starting point of the stress relieving process. From the metering sheaves, the cable advances to the dual wheel capstan mounted for rotation with the take-up reel on the cradle of the strander.
Abstract:
A power cable for use in high moisture and chemically corrosive environments has a longitudinally-folded sheath for encapsulating one or more electrical conductors. A plurality of overlapping folds at the longitudinal edges of the sheathing material creates a labyrinth-type sealing joint for maintaining moisture and gas integrity of the cable. A sealant is provided within the circumferential and radial spaces defined by the overlapping folds of the joint.
Abstract:
An extruder device having improved flow distribution, reduced shear and reduced surface area on which material can accumulate, including a breaker plate having a plurality of symmetrically arranged tapered holes provided therein. The holes are disposed on a series of V-shaped concentric centering grooves the diameters of which progressively increase, albeit by diminishing increments, over the adjacent inner circles. Each of the holes disposed on a particular centering groove is of equal diameter; however, the diameters of the holes become progressively smaller as the diameters of the centering grooves on which they are disposed increase. The holes nearest the center of the plate have the largest diameters, while those nearest the periphery of the plate have the smallest diameters. A compact symmetrical array of holes is provided, with the holes cooperating with the centering grooves to present a knife-like edge to the plastic material, with the interstitial spaces between the holes being inclined toward the holes.
Abstract:
An expert system having a computer which can receive input data and from stored data to produce an optimized die draft schedule for a given wire drawing machine. The system is adaptable to store data for a plurality of die drawing machines, producing an optimized die draft schedule for a range of input and output rod/wire sizes on each drawing machine for which the system has stored operating parameters. Alternatively, operating parameters for additional drawing machines can be entered, enabling generation of optimum die draft schedules for most wire drawing machines. An enhanced mode may be made available to enable comparison of computed values and operator estimated values.
Abstract:
Apparatus for continuously extruding powdered, comminuted, or particulated feed material which includes a Conform extrusion machine or the like in cooperation with a forming wheel rotatably disposed within a portion of the Conform wheel to compress the feed material into a compacted feedstock. Compressing the feed material into a compacted feedstock enables uniform and reliable conveyance of the feed material into the extrusion machine. An auxiliary shoe member conforming to the outer periphery of the forming wheel and to the Conform shoe is included to separate the compacted feedstock from the forming wheel. The auxiliary shoe directs the compacted feedstock into a passageway formed by the Conform machine extrusion wheel and extrusion shoe. As the respective wheels are rotated the forces on the compacted feedstock heat it and cause it to yield and flow through an extrusion chamber adjacent the Conform machine abutment; it is then extruded from a die in the wall of the chamber. A temperature control system in heat exchanging relationship with the chamber in proximity to the die maintains a desired temperature uniformity in the chamber material to provide uniformity of grain size in the extruded product. Temperature control systems may also be provided for the feed material and for metallurgical control of the extruded product.
Abstract:
A method of and an apparatus for applying a moisture block compound to a stranded electrical conductor using a double twist buncher apparatus are disclosed. An oil, such as drawing oil, is applied to the outer layer of wires to prevent "rolling" of the moisture block compound to the exterior of the stranded conductor. An improved applicator is also disclosed for applying the moisture block compound to the core of the stranded conductor in a coating having a precisely controlled thickness.
Abstract:
An apparatus for locking doors and gates is disclosed. The apparatus generally comprises a housing containing a permanent magnet and an electromagnet for locking and unlocking the door or gate and contact means on the door or gate for engaging the permanent magnet in order to lock the door or gate. The electromagnet, when energized, has a magnetic field opposing the magnetic field of the permanent magnet to magnetically disengage the permanent magnet from the contact means.
Abstract:
An improved wiring device terminal which provides a constant and predetermined compressive securing force on an electrical conductor wire being terminated on such device and which responds to thermally induced variations of the electrical conductor's dimensions.
