Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe acquiring a synchronization signal transmitted at a frequency location. An ordered list of possible frequency locations within a frequency band at which the synchronization signal may be transmitted can be obtained. The synchronization signal can be searched for at one or more possible frequency locations in the ordered list of possible frequency locations, where the searching is performed according to an order indicated in the ordered list of possible frequency locations.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide various synchronization signal (SS) block designs that can facilitate channel estimation and demodulation in 5G New Radio (NR) networks. An exemplary SS block includes a set of time-frequency resources that are allocated to carry a Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS), a Secondary Synchronization Signal (SSS) and a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) that are time and/or frequency multiplexed within the SS block. In some examples, unused time-frequency resources of the SS block may be used or allocated for supplemental channels that can improve and/or extend wireless link coverage.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for utilizing a dedicated reference signal for demodulating a Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) in a wireless communication system is disclosed. For example, the method and apparatus include configuring, at a network entity, at least one dedicated Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS) in one or more symbols corresponding to a PBCH, each dedicated DMRS being used for demodulating the PBCH. The described aspects further include transmitting, by the network entity, the at least one dedicated DMRS to one or more UEs using at least a single antenna port.

Abstract: Split synchronization signal configuration for unified synchronization channels and techniques for indicating communication block boundaries in wireless communication systems that use a unified synchronization signal configuration that may be used in different communication modes are described. The disclosed split synchronization signal configuration allows the same synchronization signal configuration to be used in different communication modes (or numerologies) that operate on different frequencies. The boundary indication techniques of embodiments allow efficient indication of the beginning of a communication block (such as a frame, subframe, or slot) relative to the beginning of a unified synchronization signal configuration.

Abstract: Systems and methods herein create unified synchronization to support various network deployments in which multiple UE states (e.g., idle, connected, etc) and multiple synchronization signal periodicities (5 ms, 20 ms, etc.) and standalone/non-standalone networks may exist. Unified synchronization may be achieved at least by designating transmit frames as being even or odd. With such a designation, when a network transmits synchronization signals (SS) comprising the most significant bits (MSB)s of a frame's system frame number (SFN), a UE of any state may receive the SS according to any periodicity and blind decode the SFN's least significant bits (LSBs) with less complexity as compared to traditional systems and methods due at least to the even or odd frame designations.

Abstract: A UE may be operating in a wireless communication network having a UE-centric medium access control layer, and the UE may detect presence of a trigger event to signal a base station of the wireless communication network. The UE may identify one of a plurality of functionalities corresponding to the trigger event, and may generate a chirp signal that includes chirp purpose indicator and a chirp message, wherein the chirp purpose indicator and a format of the chirp message correspond to the identified one of the plurality of functionalities. Accordingly, the UE may transmit the chirp signal having the chirp purpose indicator to the base station, which may provide a chirp response message that includes message contents that relate to the chirp purpose indicator.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that provide for synchronization signal (SS) blocks in which synchronization signals and broadcast channel transmissions may be transmitted. Broadcast channel transmissions may be demodulated using SS transmissions, reference signal transmissions, or combinations thereof. Broadcast channel transmissions may be transmitted in a subset of SS block time resources, and synchronization signals may be transmitted in another subset of SS block time resources. Reference signals may be transmitted using tones within the broadcast channel time resources, and may be transmitted at a higher density for portions of the broadcast channel transmission bandwidth that are outside of the SS transmission bandwidth. Waveforms for reference signal transmissions, and information provided by reference signal transmissions may be provided.
