Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. These wireless communications may include channel estimation procedures between communicating devices such as a base station and user equipment (UE). For example, the UE may receive, from the base station, a resource grant triggering a given reference signal configuration. Based at least in part on the type of reference signal configuration, the UE (e.g., and the base station) may determine a timing offset relative to the resource grant. The UE may transmit (and the base station may receive) the reference signal based at least in part on the timing offset. In some cases, the reference signal may be transmitted in a transmission opportunity of a set of transmission opportunities, where the set of transmission opportunities is determined based at least in part on the reference signal configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for multiple instances of aperiodic tracking reference signals (TRSs) that use a same set of large-scale channel properties. If two or more aperiodic TRS transmissions are triggered by downlink control information from a base station with a same transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state, a UE that receives the two or more aperiodic TRS transmissions may measure the multiple instances of the aperiodic TRS transmissions assuming that the same large scale parameters or properties can be inferred from each of the aperiodic TRS transmissions. The UE may then update one or more time tracking parameters, frequency tracking parameters, or combinations thereof, based on the same large scale transmission parameters being used for the multiple instances of the aperiodic TRS transmissions.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for configuration aspects of a tracking reference signal in New Radio. A base station may select a first burst duration and a second burst duration for a tracking reference signal (TRS) burst, the first burst duration being different from the second burst duration, and may transmit configuration information indicating the first burst duration and the second burst duration to a user equipment (UE). The base station may transmit a first TRS burst having the first burst duration and a second TRS burst having the second burst duration. The UE may detect the first TRS burst having the first burst duration and the second TRS burst having the second burst duration based at least in part on the configuration information, and perform resource tracking based at least in part on the detected first TRS burst and the second TRS burst.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining round trip time (RTT) includes a second node, which receives a first signal from a first node at a first time, determines a timing advance based on a first estimated channel response for the first signal, and transmits at a second time, a second signal to the first node, wherein the second time occurs after the first time by an amount of a pre-specified delay for RTT estimation minus the timing advance. The first node transmits the first signal to the second node at an initial time, receives the second signal from the second node, and determines a timing statistic from a second estimated channel response for the second signal, the timing statistic estimated at a third time. The first node determines the RTT as the third time minus the initial time minus the pre-specified delay for RTT estimation.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for sidelink wireless communications are described in which multiple resource pools are available for sidelink communications. Each resource pool may include a set of frequency domain resources, a set of time domain resources, and one or more subsets of available spatial resources. A transmitting user equipment (UE) may select a first spatial resource of a first resource pool for the sidelink communication, and determine a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) pattern for the sidelink communications based on the selected first spatial resource of the first resource pool. The transmitting UE may then transmit the sidelink communication and DMRS to a receiving UE using the first spatial resource of the first resource pool. The receiving UE may identify the DMRS and use the DMRS to demodulate the sidelink communication of the transmitting UE.

For example, a user equipment (UE) may be configured to receive a downlink control message (e.g., an uplink grant) that schedules resources for transmitting repetitions of an uplink channel transmission, where each of the repetitions of the uplink channel transmission may correspond to a single transport block. The UE may determine a plurality of sounding reference signal (SRS) resources based on the downlink control message, and transmit different instances of the uplink channel transmission repetitions according to different SRS resources. The described examples for uplink repetitions may support various techniques for uplink coverage enhancement and diversity gains.

A base station may transmit downlink control information indicating resource allocation types to avoid errors. In other cases, the UE and/or base station may designate a particular resource block group size to avoid the potential errors. The UE and/or base station may calculate a number of resource blocks groups for a bandwidth part and allocate the size of the resource block group based on the calculation. The UE and/or base station may conduct a comparison between a bandwidth part size and a resource block group size to determine whether to designate a different resource block group size to avoid the errors. Similar techniques may be utilized in allocating resources for precoding resource block groups.
