摘要: An apparatus includes a transparent film substrate and a second substrate which are disposed opposite to each other with a spacing therebetween, a plurality of charged particles which are disposed in the spacing, a reflection layer having a thickness sufficient to scatter light transmitted through the first substrate and reflect the light toward the first substrate, a transparent first electrode disposed on the first substrate, and a second electrode for moving the charged particles between the first and second electrodes by applying a voltage between the first and second electrodes. Both of a position of the charged particles after being moved to the first electrode and a position of the charged particles after being moved to the second electrode are substantially apart from a surface of the reflection layer.

摘要: A reversible image display medium including two sheets; one or more developer accommodating cells formed between the two sheets, and each having a periphery surrounded by a partition wall; and dry developer contained in each of the cell(s), wherein the dry developer contains at least two kinds of frictionally chargeable dry developer particles having different chargeable polarities and different optical reflection densities. The image is displayed by forming a predetermined electrostatic field for each pixel in accordance with the image to be displayed and thereby moving the developer particles in a frictionally charged state. The image formed on the reversible image display medium can be erased, e.g., by an image erasing device.

摘要: First of all, a given logic circuit is divided into a combinational circuit portion and a register portion. The combinational circuit portion obtained by division is divided into a plurality of partial circuits having high connectivity. Each partial circuit is converted into a circuit having the transistor level. Then, a layout cell of the partial circuit having the transistor level is generated. Thereafter, arrangement and wiring are performed by using, as unit cells, a layout cell which corresponds to each register included in the register portion and the layout cell for each partial circuit in the combinational circuit so that a block layout is created. Accordingly, a layout having excellent characteristics can be created by a few kinds of cells in both circuits having the CMOS logic and the pass-transistor logic. In particular, the partial circuits having high connectivity are arranged in a cell in the circuit using the pass-transistor logic. Consequently, the optimum driving capability can be obtained and the layout having stable characteristics can be created. In addition, it is possible to ensure the superiority such as a reduction in area, the low consumed power, high-speed operation and the like.

摘要: Bone connector including a first joint and a second joint insertable and securable into respective cut bone pieces for joining the cut bone pieces. Each joint has a flat end surface flush with the cut end of the corresponding cut bone piece when secured therein. The first joint includes a stepped hole having a coaxial hole portion, a shoulder with a surface substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the joints, and an innermost engaging portion. The second joint includes a stepped shaft having a first shaft fitting the coaxial hole portion and an engaging portion for engaging the innermost engaging portion of the first joint, which hold the joints coaxially along a line, as well as a plate spring member. The joints both include cylindrical bodies of substantially equal diameter for connecting the cut bone pieces, and at least outer surface portions of the joints are made of a material having a bioactive affinity with the human body or biocompatibility with human tissue. The plate spring member is deformed as it passes the coaxial hole portion and restored to abut the surface of the shoulder perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, for locking the joints and flush connecting the flat end surfaces with each other.

摘要: A liquid crystal composition is composed of at least three types of mesomorphic compounds. The liquid crystal composition may preferably contain a mesomorphic compound having an indan skeleton represented by the formula (1) or (3) and a mesomorphic compound having a terminal cyclic group represented by the formula (2) or (4). The liquid crystal composition may also preferably further contain an optically active compound to be formulated as a chiral smectic (or ferroelectric) liquid crystal composition. When the chiral smectic liquid crystal composition is disposed between a pair of electrode substrates provided with uniaxial alignment axes, the liquid crystal composition may preferably be placed in an alignment state in C1 uniform alignment, so that a resultant liquid crystal device provides a higher contrast ratio and a wider drive voltage margin.
