    摘要: The present disclosure relates to methods, software, and apparatuses for correcting reading and/or writing operations in an optical storage medium. The methods generally include reading a region of an optical storage medium to produce a readback signal, measuring timing offsets for a plurality of the data edges (including one or more non-guide edges), and storing an offset correction for at least one of the plurality of edges based on a measured offset of at least one of the plurality of edges relative to a predetermined offset. The disclosure advantageously enables precise measurement of timing offsets in optical storage media and correction of the measured offsets for timing offsets attributable to edge jitter, timing loop drift, or factors independent of variations in the medium and/or write operation characteristics.

    摘要: A data recovery device including an analog to digital converter (ADC), a filtering-equalizing unit, a zero crossing detector, a data phase locked loop, a data mapping unit and an estimation unit is provided. The ADC converts a radio frequency signal to a plurality of sampling data points. The sampling data points are converted to a plurality of retiming data points and a clock signal by the filtering-equalizing unit, the zero crossing detector and the data phase locked loop. The data mapping unit selects a plurality of maximum data points and minimum data points from the returning data points, and determines whether to map the maximum data points and the minimum data points to other levels for partially reconstructing the retiming data points. The estimation unit recovers the reconstructed retiming data points to a modulation signal.

    摘要: Compatibility information embedded in an optical medium modifies actions allowed by predetermined non-compatible optical disc drives on the optical medium, such as optical disc drives that may suffer damage if certain actions are performed on the optical medium. For instance, a compatibility engine of the optical disc drive applies compatibility information read from an optical medium to determine restrictions to impose on the use of the optical medium, such as restricting the optical disc drive from writing to the optical medium, reading from the optical medium or performing any operations until an update to the optical disc drive firmware is performed either automatically or by display of a compatibility user interface at an information handling system associated with the optical disc drive. In one embodiment, the compatibility information identifies incompatible optical disc drives and firmware versions by unique identifiers.
