Abstract: A position and rotation information acquisition unit 730 acquires information relating to a position and a rotation of the head of a user who wears a head-mounted display unit 100. A coordinate transformation unit 740 and a panorama image processing unit 750 generate an image to be displayed on the head-mounted display unit using the information relating to the position and the rotation acquired at a certain point of time by the position and rotation information acquisition unit 730. A correction processing unit 780 corrects the generated image using updated information relating to the position and the rotation at a different point of time.

Abstract: A panorama image processing unit generates a wide viewing angle image like a panorama image which is seen from a given point of view. An image conversion unit converts the generated wide viewing angle image into an image of a transmission format in which the angular resolution which is a number of pixels per unit angle centered at the point of view is adjusted in response to a ray direction toward the point of view. An image provision unit transmits the image in the transmission format in which the angular resolution is adjusted to a head-mounted display unit. The head-mounted display unit converts the received image so as to conform the image to an optical characteristic of a device and displays the image on the device.

Abstract: Disclosed is an image generation apparatus generating and outputting a panoramic image that is obtained by converting, to a planar shape, a projection plane onto which a scene within at least a partial range of a virtual sphere as viewed from an observation point is projected. The panoramic image is such that a unit area on the virtual sphere containing a given attention direction as viewed from the observation point is converted to a broader area than other unit areas. The image generation apparatus generates the panoramic image corresponding to the projection plane such that a portion of a main line that links a position in the attention direction to a position in a direction opposite the attention direction and is within the panoramic image corresponding to a unit amount of an angle of rotation around the observation point is maximized in length at a position closest to the attention direction.

Abstract: The object of the present invention is to realize a virtual image distance changing device and so on capable of presenting a target, an object to be viewed by a user, at a virtual image distance that corresponds to an actual depth of the target. The virtual image distance changing device includes a display panel, optics, depth information acquisition means, and distance changing means. The display panel displays an image that corresponds to image information. The optics guides the image displayed on the display panel to user's eyes and causes the user to view a virtual image that corresponds to the image. The depth information acquisition means acquires depth information that represents the depth of the target to be viewed, the object displayed on the display panel to be viewed by the user. The distance changing means changes a virtual image distance that represents a distance at which the virtual image is viewed by the user corresponding to the depth information.
