Abstract: A method of driving a display device includes a preliminary frame charging step and a main frame charging step. The method comprises a preliminary frame charging step of simultaneously charging liquid crystal cells in a pixel line group having a selected pixel row and a unselected pixel row with pixel data of the selected pixel row of the pixel line group and a main frame charging step of charging liquid crystal cells in the unselected pixel line group with pixel data of the unselected pixel line group.

The timing controller generates first and second image data based on input image data and generates output image data based on the first and second image data. The first image data corresponds to a boundary region in a first image. The second image data corresponds to a non-boundary region in the first image. The display panel includes a plurality of pixels and displays the first image based on the output image data. The plurality of pixels include boundary pixels corresponding to the boundary region and non-boundary pixels corresponding to the non-boundary region. The boundary pixels operate based on a reference gamma curve. The non-boundary pixels operate based on first and second gamma curves different from the reference gamma curve.

Abstract: An adaptive black clipping circuit in a display device includes a data corrector, a register, a pattern detector and a clipping selector. The data corrects input image data to generate corrected image data such that the corrected image data is equal to or greater than a black clipping value where the black clipping value corresponds to the input image data having a grayscale value of zero and the black clipping value is greater than zero. The register stores and provides configuration data. The pattern detector generates a pattern detection signal based on the input image data corresponding to a plurality of rows. The clipping selector selects one of the corrected image data and the configuration data in response to the pattern detection signal to provide output image data.

Abstract: A timing controller includes a count control circuit, a pulse width detector, and a pulse generator. The count control circuit receives an external enable signal. Pulses of the external enable signal include an effective and a blank period of image data. The count control circuit counts pulse widths of each of the pulses. The pulse width detector receives the counted pulse widths, compares a pulse width of a present pulse with pulse widths of previous pulses, and detects a pulse width of a previous pulse that has a pulse width smaller than the pulse width of the present pulse. The pulse generator generates three output pulses having pulse widths that are one-third a period of the detected previous pulse. The pulse generator outputs the first, second and third pulses as an internal enable signal.

The gate lines are divided into a plurality of gate line groups. The method includes applying different gate delay values to each of the gate line groups to generate gate signals and outputting the gate signals to the gate lines. A first gate delay value is applied to at least one of the gate lines during a first frame and a second gate delay value different from the first delay value is applied to the at least one of the gate lines during a second frame.

Abstract: A data driver includes a digital-to-analog converter, a control signal output circuit, and an output buffer. The digital-to-analog converter generates first data voltages and second data voltages based on image data and a polarity control signal. Each first data voltage has a positive polarity, and each second data voltage has a negative polarity. The control signal output circuit outputs a first output control signal and a second output control signal based on the polarity control signal. A phase of the second output control signal is different from a phase of the first output control signal. The output buffer outputs the first data voltages based on the first output control signal and outputs the second data voltages based on the second output control signal.
