    Abstract: A point-of-interest information acquisition section of an information processing apparatus acquires, by using a polarization image captured from a viewpoint of an imaging apparatus, an incident plane relative to the viewpoint at a point of interest ‘a’ on a subject. A viewpoint control section determines a direction of movement of the imaging apparatus in such a manner as to suitably acquire an angle formed with the incident plane and presents the direction to a user. When the post-movement viewpoint of an imaging apparatus is determined to be appropriate, an incident plane at the point of interest ‘a’ is acquired by using the captured polarization image, and a line of intersection with the incident plane is assumed to be a normal vector n of the point of interest ‘a.’

    Abstract: An image obtaining section of an information processing apparatus obtains polarized light images in a plurality of directions from an imaging device provided to a moving body. A polarization degree obtaining section of an image analyzing section obtains a degree of polarization on the basis of direction dependence of luminance of polarized light. A high polarization degree region evaluating section detects the peripheral edge of a play field on which the moving body is present, by evaluating the shape of a high polarization degree region having degrees of polarization higher than a threshold value in a state in which the high polarization degree region is overlooked. An output data generating section generates and outputs output data for avoiding movement to the peripheral edge.

    Abstract: An image acquisition section of an information processing apparatus acquires, from an imaging apparatus, polarization images in a plurality of orientations. A normal acquisition section of an image analysis section detects a surface of a subject by acquiring a normal vector on the basis of orientation dependence of polarization luminance. A surface assumption section assumes the presence of an undetected surface continuing from the detected surface. A subject detection section confirms whether or not the assumed surface is present using a normal vector estimated for the assumed surface.     Abstract: An information processing apparatus determines a plurality of sampling points in a range of a target object's silhouette having different specular reflectances in polarization images in a plurality of azimuths, extracts polarization luminance at the sampling points in question, and derives change in luminance relative to the polarization azimuth, thus acquiring, as a phase angle, the azimuth that provides the highest luminance. Then, the information processing apparatus evaluates a characteristic of the change in phase angle relative to the change in the specular reflectance, thus identifying a subject's surface roughness. Further, the information processing apparatus generates data to be output by performing a process according to the surface roughness and outputs the generated data.

    Abstract: A captured image acquisition section of an information processing apparatus acquires polarization image data including polarization information in a plurality of azimuths. An imaging apparatus information acquisition section acquires information regarding a position and posture of an imaging apparatus. A viewpoint control section of a subject information acquisition section controls a plurality of viewpoints from which polarization images are captured. A point-of-interest information acquisition section sets a pixel of interest having a degree of polarization equal to or higher than a threshold in a polarization image of a first viewpoint, identifies a pixel representing the same point of interest in a polarization image of a second viewpoint, and then obtains a line of intersection between incident planes acquired for the respective viewpoints as a normal vector. An output data generation section generates output data based on results thereof and outputs the data.
