Abstract: A stereo camera calibration method includes: obtaining a stereo image generated by imaging a chart using a stereo camera, the chart at least including two markers arranged at a known interval; measuring the known interval, using the stereo image and a calibration parameter for the stereo camera; and correcting a parameter pertaining to an optical axis position so as to reduce a difference between the known interval and a result of the measurement. The correcting includes performing a process corresponding to moving the optical axis position in perpendicular and lateral directions on an imaging surface of the stereo camera. The correcting includes calculating a perpendicular correction amount of the optical axis position, and then calculating a lateral correction amount of the optical axis position.

Abstract: A landmark estimating method estimates a position of a landmark that is a hole existing in an object and is a site through which an insertion portion penetrates, in an endoscope image obtained by picking up an image of the object by an endoscope with the insertion portion bent. The landmark estimating method includes estimating an axis of the insertion portion, estimating a boundary of the insertion portion and the object, and estimating the position of the landmark based on the axis and the boundary that are estimated.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes at least one circuit. The at least one circuit acquires a plurality of images, including at least a first image and a second image obtained by photographing a subject from different viewpoints, acquires an instruction from a user, sets on the first image a measurement point for which three-dimensional coordinates of the subject are required, based on the instruction, calculates a correspondence point which is on the second image and which corresponds to the measurement point, by matching, calculates a reliability of the matching between the measurement point and the correspondence point as a measurement point reliability, and sets on the first image an alternative measurement point enabling a reliability higher than that of the measurement point reliability, instead of the measurement point, if the measurement point reliability is less than a predetermined threshold value.
