Abstract: The display of images, such as lenticular images, in a limited display space can be aided through the use of motion-based control, whereby a user can rotate and/or translate a computing device in order to cause different views of a lenticular image to be displayed. Sensors can be used to determine the motion in order to select the appropriate view to display. Approaches can further assist the user in creating lenticular images. The user can specify various configurations in which to display different views in a lenticular. If the user is capturing the images, one or more previously-acquired images can be used as a guide to help the user to align the images. Various processing can be performed to cause the individual views of the lenticular to match as closely as possible in factors such as alignment, brightness, and color range, among other such options.

Abstract: Headphones can be configured such that back surfaces of the speaker housings can be coupled to form a loop enabling users to wear the headphones around their necks when the speakers are not in use. In various embodiments, faces of the respective speaker housings may comprise asymmetrical, complementary surfaces. In such embodiments, the users can distinguish between the speakers intended to correspond with respective right and left stereo channels by tactile feel. In some embodiments, the interlocking of the housing structures can be achieved by magnetic force to maintain the coupling when the speakers are not in use but can be decoupled by the user without undue effort. In some embodiments, the speaker housings are configured to constrain the housings to a specific orientation when mated.

Abstract: The display of images, such as panoramic images, in a limited display space can be aided through the use of motion-based control, whereby a user can rotate and/or translate a computing device in order to view different portions of the image, including translating or zooming within the image. Sensors can be used to determine the motion for adjusting the display. The same or other sensors can also assist a user in capturing such an image. For example, a compass can determine the relative orientation of the device and a gyroscope can determine rotation of the device, to determine an appropriate path of motion for the capture and any deviation from that path. The user can be provided with information enabling the user to follow the path with an appropriate device orientation.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for determining calibration settings for displaying content on a monitor. A user may use a mobile computing device to determine calibration settings for a monitor. A calibration tool on the mobile computing device causes one or more calibration images to be displayed on the monitor. The calibration images are used to determine settings related to gamma, brightness, contrast, color settings, and the like that are associated with the monitor. After a calibration image is displayed, the calibration tool utilizes a camera on the mobile computing device to capture an image of the calibration image. The calibration tool analyzes the captured image data to determine calibration settings for the monitor. The calibration tool may apply the calibration settings directly to the monitor or might adjust image data before the image data is displayed.

Abstract: A plurality of depth planes corresponding to a scene within a field of view of a camera of a computing device can be computed based on stereographic techniques, infrared transceivers, ultrasonic transceivers, among other approaches. The depth planes can be utilized to independently meter subject matter of interest (e.g., person, object, region, etc.) corresponding to each depth plane to obtain image statistics for each depth plane. The image statistics can be analyzed to determine optimal settings (e.g., focus, exposure, white balance, etc.) for each depth plane, and a camera can be configured to acquire image data according to the optimal settings for one or more of the depth planes. Further, the image statistics can be leveraged for processing portions of the image data that are not optimized during capture. Thus, a final image can reflect optimizations for multiple subject matter of interest located at various distances from a computing device.

Abstract: Approaches utilize image information to not only identify a user, but also verify that the user is actually a physical person and not a false representation of that user. For example, a computing device can utilize image information with a facial recognition process in order to verify an identity of a current user of the device. A fingerprint or other verification metric can be generated from the image information and can be used to verify that the user is actually a physical human user instead of a representation (e.g., photo) of a human user. The fingerprint can include a number of cues, such as a shape of the face, a stereo disparity signature of the face, facial feature movement, as well as a presence of a human pulse. The cues can be combined and utilized for authenticating a user into the device as well as for verifying that the user is actually a physical person and not a false representation of that user.

Abstract: A finger of a user detected within a predetermined range from a surface of a display screen can be used to navigate through and select content in accordance with various embodiments. In response to detecting the finger within the predetermined range, a selection element can be positioned offset from the finger. The offset positioning keeps the selection element from being obscured by the finger and, thus, enabling it to remain visible to the user. In response to detecting the user's finger approaching the surface of the display screen, the selection element becomes fixed in its current location when the finger reaches a threshold distance from the surface. Accordingly, as the finger gets closer to the surface, it starts to converge with the selection element. Finally, the finger converges with the selection element when the finger reaches the surface of the display screen to select the desired content.
