The display apparatus includes a communicator configured to communicate with an access point (AP), a storage, a display, an image processor, and a processor configured to, in a sleep mode, in response to a first signal being received via the AP from an external device accessing the AP, switch from the sleep mode to an standby mode and transmit a response signal with respect to the first signal to the external device, and to store content received from the external device in the storage while the display is turned-off, wherein the processor, in response to a second signal further being received from the external device, activates the image processor to process the content stored in the storage and activates the display to display the processed content.
