摘要: Provided are a magnetic tape head, a magnetic tape drive, and a computational device in which the magnetic tape head is comprised of a plurality of elements, wherein a pitch between adjacent elements of the plurality of elements is not identical. Selected elements of the plurality of elements that are shifted from a nominal position are selected in a symmetrical manner in the plurality of elements. A total of shifts of the elements of the plurality of elements that are shifted add up to a desired total shift to realign a plurality of modules, such that the median head span of each module type match as closely as possible to a desired value of a head span for all module types.

摘要: The present disclosure generally relates to a tape drive including a tape head. The tape head comprises at least one same gap verify (SGV) module comprising a plurality of write transducer and read transducer pairs disposed on a substrate. In each pair, the write transducer comprises a write pole having a height, and the read transducer comprises a first shield disposed adjacent to the write pole. The write pole and the first shield of each pair are spaced apart a distance greater than or equal to about 20% of the height of the write pole. The SGV module is configured to write data to a tape using the write transducer of each pair and read verify the data written on the tape using the read transducer of each pair such that the write transducer and read transducer of each pair are concurrently operable.

摘要: A magnetic head, according to one embodiment, includes a rowbar substrate having a tape support surface and a gap surface at a substrate edge. A closure is positioned opposite the gap surface of the rowbar substrate, the closure forming a portion of the tape support surface. A recessed gap region is interposed between the gap surface of the rowbar substrate and the closure, the recessed gap region having a recessed gap profile that extends between the gap surface of the rowbar substrate and the closure, the recessed gap region having a transducer row with at least one magnetic sensor on the gap surface of the rowbar substrate. An insulation layer is positioned over the recessed gap profile of the recessed gap region.

A guide is positioned relative to the edge for inducing tenting of a moving magnetic recording tape above a tape tenting region of the tape bearing surface. The magnetic transducer is positioned along the tape tenting region. The magnetic transducer is positioned a distance from a location on the tape bearing surface directly under a peak that is more than one-fourth the length from the location directly under the peak to the edge closest thereto.

摘要: An apparatus, according to one embodiment, includes: a first module and a second module each having an array of transducers oriented orthogonal to an intended direction of tape travel thereacross, where the first module is movable relative to the second module. The apparatus also includes an actuator configured to exert a force on one of the modules for causing a relative movement of the first module with respect to the second module for aligning the transducers of the first module with the transducers of the second module in a direction of tape travel thereacross. Moreover, longitudinal axes of the arrays of the first and second modules are not pivotable from orthogonal to the intended direction of tape travel thereacross. The first and second high moment layers each have a higher magnetic moment than magnetic moments of the pole tips of the second and first write poles, respectively.
