摘要: Portable microwave material gauge for determining the quality of a pavement material is provided. The gauge includes an electromagnetic field generator configured to generate an electric field mode that penetrates into the material wherein the material includes a heterogeneous material including at least one of a pavement material and a soil material, a calibration data set, a sensor of size and shape to support the electric field mode and to determine the response of the pavement material to the electric field wherein determining the response includes determining a change in the permittivity as a function of a change in the quality of the material; and an analyzer configured to correlate the sensor permittivity response to the calibration data set wherein correlating the response includes using stored relationships between the material quality and the sensor response using calibration samples having changes in permittivity as a function of quality.

According to one aspect, a material property gauge operable to determine a property of construction material is disclosed. The gauge may include an electromagnetic sensor operable to measure a response of construction material to an electromagnetic field. Further, the electromagnetic sensor may be operable to produce a signal representing the measured response by the construction material to the electromagnetic field. An acoustic detector may be operable to detect a response of the construction material to the acoustical energy. Further, the acoustic detector may be operable to produce a signal representing the detected response by the construction material to the acoustical energy. A material property calculation function may be configured to calculate a property value associated with the construction material based upon the signals produced by the electromagnetic sensor and the acoustic detector.

摘要: A compaction control system for and methods of accurately determining properties of compacted and/or existing ground materials is disclosed. The compaction control system includes a compaction machine that further includes a vibratory drum (or roller). The compaction machine is equipped with sensors to determine position and heading, vibration amplitudes at selected frequencies, and material type and moisture content information. Further, the compaction control system includes a controller and certain algorithms for processing the sensor information. Namely, a method is provided of using the sensor information to assess the improvement in compaction and then determine whether and/or when further ground improvement solutions are needed.

摘要: A method, apparatus and system for providing an estimate of the level of compaction of a layer of pavement materials in real time. In some embodiments, a Retrofit Intelligent Compaction Analyzer (RICA) processor of a RICA device receives vibrational energy data from a sensor module which corresponds to impact responses of a drum of a roller machine during compaction of a pavement material over a section of pavement. The RICA processor also receives temperature data from the sensor module, determines an estimated level of compaction in real time of the section of pavement based on the vibrational energy data, pavement material characteristics data and the temperature data, and displays a density level percentage of the section of pavement on a display device for viewing by an operator of the roller machine.

摘要: A method for determining the density and moisture content of porous construction material that is used in the civil construction industry such as aggregate, soil aggregate, type I or II base, or native soil materials that are suitable for shallow foundations. In a first part of the method, porous construction material undergoes physical and electrical testing in the geotechnical laboratory to empirically derive correlations between the electrical and physical properties. In a second part compacted construction material is tested in-situ by deploying field testing apparatus and methods to measure the electrical properties of the porous construction material. The field equipment utilizes the established relationship of the electrical and physical characteristics to calculate the porous construction material density and moisture content. Also disclosed are tools for performing soil tests in trenches, e.g. for pipelines, where the moisture and density of the compacted bedding and backfill materials needs to be tested.
