The closures are maintained in alignment with and are pressed against the open tops of filled containers during advancement from the filling unit to the capping or sealing unit. A cap feeding device for feeding caps from a supply bin downwardly through a delivery chute and onto bottles and beginning the threading of the caps on the bottles is disclosed. The chute is specially designed in order to allow only properly oriented caps to enter it. The chute is also oversized in order to prevent the caps from jamming during their conveyance down the chute. The bottom of the chute includes holding and release structure which guides the caps onto the bottles as they are pulled from the chute by advancing bottles. The caps then pass between a pair of rails which support the cap and rotate it, thereby initiating the threading operation.
