Abstract: An occupant crash protection includes: a seatbelt that restrains a front-seat occupant sitting in a front seat; a retractor that is installed inside a seatback of the front seat and reels in one end side of the seatbelt, inserted inside the seatback, so as to allow the seatbelt to be pulled out; and a rear-seat airbag module that is installed inside the seatback, on a seat rear side relative to the seatbelt, and inflates and deploys an airbag toward the seat rear side of the seatback while inflating a part of the airbag toward a seat front side so as to press the seatbelt toward the seat front side.

Abstract: A seat belt system for restraining an occupant of a vehicle. The system includes a webbing and a pretensioner. A cable connects the webbing to the pretensioner. The pretensioner includes a housing, a gas generator, and an outer cylinder connected to the housing. A gas generator provides gases into a pressure chamber in the outer cylinder to drive a piston, an inner cylinder and the cable in a pretensioning direction. A sealing ring is located between the outer cylinder and inner cylinder. The sealing ring is configured to provide a seal to prevent the gases provided by the gas generator from passing. A deflector shield is located between the outer cylinder and the inner cylinder and closer to the pressure chamber than the sealing ring, wherein the deflector shield is configured to deflect the gases away from the sealing ring.

Abstract: A seat belt device includes a webbing and a tongue. The webbing includes a lap belt and a shoulder belt. At least a portion of the lap belt is configured to be disposed to extend in a vehicle-width direction along a front of an abdomen of an occupant. At least a portion of the shoulder belt is configured to be disposed obliquely along a front of a chest of the occupant. The tongue is provided between the lap belt and the shoulder belt of the webbing and is configured to be coupled to a vehicle body when the tongue is to be mounted. The tongue rotates in accordance with a collision or a warning of the collision of a vehicle in a direction in which the shoulder belt is twisted with respect to the vehicle body.

Abstract: A vehicle seat and safety assembly includes a seat cushion, a seatback, and a wraparound seatbelt system to restrain an occupant in rear, side and rollover crashes. The seat cushion is connected to a vehicle floor. The seatback is connected to the seat cushion. The wraparound belt has a first strap end, a second strap end, and a strap, net or supporting body extending between the first strap end and the second strap end to direct restraining forces from an occupant through the seat to the vehicle floor or structure. The strap, net, or supporting body extends at least partially through or is integrated with the seatback and may incorporate pretensioning, load-limiting and other features to increase and control occupant restraint in non-frontal crashes.

Abstract: A system for modifying vehicle behavior based on data from a dynamically updated roadway coefficient of friction database. The system includes a roadway coefficient of friction database and an electronic computing device. The electronic computing device includes a first electronic processor that is configured to receive a current coefficient of friction and a location of a vehicle and depending on a criterion, replace, in the roadway coefficient of friction database, a previous coefficient of friction with the current coefficient of friction. The first electronic processor is also configured to receive a request for a coefficient of friction associated with a location and transmit the coefficient of friction associated with the location. Additionally, the system includes a plurality of vehicles each including a second electronic processor. Each second electronic processor is configured to perform a preventative measure based on the coefficient of friction received from the electronic computing device.
