In traffic processes in a telecommunication system there is internal communication between service controlling entities which may belong to logical nodes in the same or different applications. Such a service controlling entity may be a service process controlling a service for a party of a call. The communication between the service controlling entities is controlled by rules given in a generic protocol. These rules imply lack of messages and use only of protocol parameters in the form of indivisible information transmission elements. Based upon the generic protocol, service protocols are specified, each corresponding to its service, and a protocol managing entity within an application handling the protocol management of a certain service according to the service protocol. The information elements are distributed by a communication service having a parameter distribution function for the protocol parameters, by transferring data between the protocol managing entities.

The invention concerns a method and system for interactive communication between at least two users each provided with a telephone set of the switched telephone network, via the Internet. Each telephone set is directly locally connected to an associated interface device. The first user, who initiates the communication, dials on his set the telephone number of the second user indicating to his interface device that he wishes to communicate via the Internet. The interface device of the first user the connects with the interface device of the second user via the Internet, the two telephone sets being rung off. Once the connection has been established via the Internet, each interface device indicates to its associated telephone set, then each of the users picks up his set and communicates interactively with his correspondent via the Internet.

A communication device receives packetized data transmitted from a terminal device, which is coupled to the communication device via an Rm interface. The communication device determines whether the received packetized data comprises compressed or uncompressed data. Upon determining that the received packetized data comprises compressed data, the communication device determines whether connection information identifying a compression slot is included in the compressed data. The communication device further determines whether the connection information exceeds a highest-numbered decompression slot from a plurality of decompression slots on said Um interface. The communication device sets up a local decompression slot, in the communication device, which corresponds to the connection information in order to maintain said compression state, wherein the local decompression slot is set up in response to determining that the connection information exceeds the highest-numbered decompression slot. The communication device decompresses the compressed packetized data when it receives compressed packetized data containing said connection information.

A protocol conversion system is provided to secure a highly reliable and smooth data communication between different two types of networks whose protocols differs in types from each other. A protocol conversion between such networks is realized by replacing headers added to communication data. Information indicating that sending data was success or failure in transmission is included in the headers, thereby sending results being recognized. A serial interface intervenes between the self and party systems in order to detect states of the party system. Further, for data communication, without processing (or terminating) layers up to an application layer, only lower layers, that is, a transport layer and layers lower than it, are processed (or terminated) to raise reliability in data communication.

Secure web-based messaging according to a “push” paradigm is augmented by specific, intended recipient authentication. In particular, a document can be sent to a specified, intended recipient through the Web using e-mail recipient notification, and the recipient is authenticated prior to delivering the document to the recipient. Such authentication prevents a cracker from snooping a delivery notification e-mail message and retrieving the document prior to retrieval by the true intended recipient. In addition, such authentication of the recipient is driven by the sender such that prior participation by the recipient in the messaging system according to the present invention is required.

A communication protocol stack apparatus and method determine the aggregate maximum header and trailer lengths(H, T) and a payload size(P) for each layer of the protocol stack and pre-allocate for each layer one or more buffers of a length equal to the sum of “H”, “T” and “P”. The layer copies receiving data into the pre-allocated buffer at a position determined by “H”, and copies its header and trailer immediately before and after the data in the buffer. The layer sets two references. The next lower layer copies its header and trailer into the buffer at the positions determined by the references and updates the references. The process is repeated until the lowest layer and data between the references is copied to a physical device for transmission.
