摘要: A power supply (1) for a pulsed load (2) includes a first energy storage device in the form of a battery (3) which is in parallel with a second energy storage device in the form of a supercapacitor (4). Battery (3) and supercapacitor (4) are respectively modelled as: an ideal battery (7) in series with an internal resistance (8); and an ideal capacitor (9) in series with an equivalent series resistance (ESR) (10). Through use of a supercapacitor (4) having a low ESR with respect to the resistance (8), the power supply (1) facilitates continuity of supply to load (2). That is, during peak demand more of the load current will be supplied by supercapacitor (4) due to the lower ESR. Moreover, during times of lower load current demands the battery recharges the supercapacitor. This reduces the peak current needed to be provided by the battery and thereby improves battery longevity.

摘要: A charge/discharge protection apparatus of the present invention includes a switch provided on a charge/discharge current line, the charge/discharge current line being connected to a secondary battery of a battery pack. A charge-state overcurrent detector outputs a control signal when a charge-state overcurrent condition of the battery is detected in a charge state of the battery pack. A control unit sets the switch in OFF state to cut off connection between the charge/discharge current line and the battery in response to the control signal output by the charge-state overcurrent detector. The charge/discharge protection apparatus has a capability to detect the charge-state overcurrent condition of the battery, and protects the secondary battery from being damaged due to the charge-state overcurrent condition.

摘要: Using the combination of batteries and supercapacitors to provide impulse, various all-in-one power tools driven by the impulse are devised. The impulse may be utilized in three ways, namely, to launch an object, to create an impact force, and to form a peak current that can be greater than 100A. While the supercapacitors greatly enhance the power output of the power module, the supercapacitors are disposed in-parallel for charging and switched to series connection for discharging on depressing the triggers of the tools. Therefore, the batteries required to drive the portable power tools can be minimized & reduced, and the circuitry for conducting the parallel-to-series switch is simple and economical. Using interchangeable attachments or accessories, and power module of the invention, one tool body can be applied to many types of work and maintenance at homes and in the fields.

摘要: A charging efficiency, which is a ratio of an electrical quantity charged in a battery as an electromotive force to a total electrical quantity supplied to the battery, is computed at a plurality of measuring points between a start and an end of charging of the battery. A resistance difference of the battery between a resistance at the charge start point and a resistance at one of the measuring points is obtained, and a full charged state resistance is obtained at a full charged state of the battery. By using a ratio of the resistance difference to the full charged state resistance, a charging efficiency of the battery is computed at the one of the measuring points. The battery is in an active state where no passivating film is formed on poles of the battery. A charged electrical quantity of the battery is obtained based on the charging efficiencies sequentially obtained during the charging of the battery when the battery is in the active state. In the mean time, a charged electrical quantity of the battery is obtained based on an integration of a charging current multiplied by a corresponding charging time during a transition period in which a passivating film remains on the poles of the battery before the charging current sufficiently breaks the passivating film.

摘要: The present invention provides a redundant break before make digital circuit. Redundant circuits are used to provide a path to ground for a charging signal when a fault condition exists. The fault condition may be based on characteristics relating to the signal or the chip itself. For example, a fault condition may occur when a temperature measured on the chip exceeds a predetermined threshold. A fault condition may also occur when the signal is above or below a predetermined threshold. For example, a fault condition may occur when the current of the signal is above a predetermined level. The fault conditions are monitored and the state of a switch that couples the cell to the charging path is monitored. When the switch is open and a fault condition has occurred, there are redundant paths to ensure that a switch closes to provide the path to ground during the fault condition.
