摘要: A device is proposed to detect the existence of a hypothetical Universal Particle Field of the Universe. According to this hypothesis, this energy field is responsible for all gravitational, and inertial phenomena in the Universe. The proposed device is quite simple, and it is quite practical to build. This device may also settle the controversy between the advocates of the hypothetical "Field Generated By Matter" vs. the "Universal Particle Field" advocates. The device consists of a rotor, surrounded by a relatively large Universal Particle shading mass. A mass free slot, in line with a segment of the rotor rim mass, allows slightly less attenuated Universal Particle beams, than 180 degrees from this slot, to impinge on the rotor rim segment mass. Calculations given, indicate that a 10 kg rotor rim segment mass, with a 100,000 kg removed mass from the slot, results in a force on the rotor rim of about 6.67.times.10.sup.-5 Newtons. Magnetically levitated bearings should allow a 1 meter diameter rotor to rotate at this torque.

摘要: A method of stabilizing operation of a hybrid spark chamber is disclosed. The method is applied to a self-triggering hybrid spark chamber of the gas-flow type including a spark chamber portion and a proportional chamber portion, and utilizes a high speed discharge circuit for the proportional chamber portion, the high speed discharge circuit being so constructed that upon generation of a precedent spark in the spark chamber portion by electrons produced by radiation and multipled in the proportional chamber portion the discharge circuit is simultaneously operated in response to the spark so as to rapidly lower an electric field intensity of the proportional chamber portion, thereby preventing the generation in the proportional chamber of any induced spark.

摘要: A DEVICE FOR DETECTING AND VISUALIZING THE SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF RADIATION COMPRISES THREE PARALLEL ELECTRODES DISPOSED WITHIN AN ENCLOSURE WHICH CONTAINS AN IONIZABLE GAS MIXTURE AND CONSISTING OF A GRID BETWEEN A CATHODE WHICH IS TRANSPARENT TO SAID RADIATION AND AN ANODE. THE GRID DEFINES WITH THE CATHODE A DETECTION SPACE IN WHICH THE INCIDENT RADIATION CAUSES IONIZATION OF THE GAS MIXTURE AND DEFINES WITH THE ANODE A SPACE FOR THE MULTIPLICATION OF ELECTRONS WHICH ARE PRODUCED IN THE DETECTION SPACE AND PASS THROUGH THE GRID, THEREBY INITIATING THE PRODUCTION OF SPARKS. THE DETECTING DEVICE FURTHER COMPRISES AN EXTERNAL CIRCUIT WHICH PROVIDES A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE ANODE AND THE GRID AND INCLUDES MEANS WHICH ARE TRIGGERED BY THE SPARKS PRODUCED WITHIN THE MULTIPLICATION SPACE IN ORDER TO SHORT-CIRCUIT SAID MULTIPLICATION SPACE TEMPORARILY AT THE TIME OF APPEARANCE OF EACH SPARK. 摘要: The disclosure concerns the observations of very fast light phenomena. It is desired to temporarily store a series of images arriving at a fast rate (one every 10 nanoseconds) for a duration (one microsecond) that gives enough time receive an order of selection of an image which is worthwile for analysis. The other images, which had been stored solely in case one of them might be interesting, are eliminated as and when they are not selected. An electron tube is used for the conversion of light images into packets of electrons. Each packet represents an image. The packets move in the tube from one end to the other, behind one another. The method and device disclosed make use of the property that these packets of electrons have, of moving far more slowly than light if the electrical fields in the tube are weak. It is therefore possible to temporarily store a large number of images in the form of these packets of electrons travelling in the tube for a duration which may be one microsecond. At the end of the trip, a selection grid enables a desired image to be selected and sent to the output face of the tube.

摘要: A logic system for processing data derived from a multiplicity of individual detectors for the purpose of detecting the presence of data generated by at least one of said detectors and for the purpose of identifying the detectors which have generated data. The disclosed logic system is particularly suited for use with nuclear detectors designed to detect the existence of particles with very short life times which could be of the order of a nanosecond. The disclosed embodiment comprises a first pyramidal multilevel matrix of OR circuits and a second pyramidal multilevel matrix of switching circuits, with the two matrices being symmetrical, and with the first matrix serving primarily to detect the presence of data generated by a detector and the second matrix serving primarily to identify the detectors which have generated data.

摘要: A readout system has been provided for reading out a radiation multidetector device with a reduced number of signal sensors. A radiation hodoscope, such as an array of scintillation counters, multiwire proportional counter array, or a set of multidetectors which do not receive signals simultaneously, is divided into equal numbered groups. A first group of signal terminals is connected to the equal numbered groups of detectors so that a signal from any one of the detectors of a group will be fed to an individual one of the first group of terminals. A second group of signal terminals is connected to the detector groups so that a signal from a particular numbered detector of each of the detector groups is connected to individual ones of the second group of terminals. Both groups of signal terminals are, in turn, coupled to signal sensors so that when a signal is simultaneously observed in one of the first group of terminals and one of the second group of terminals the specific detector detecting a radiation event is determined. The sensors are arranged in such a manner that a binary code is developed from their outputs which can be stored in a digital storage means according to the location of the event in the multidetector device.
