The invention relates to a yarn changer for knitting machines, with swinging yarn fingers (22c, 22d), which comprise finger bodies and guide bodies (66c, 66d) having cutting and clamping elements (69, 71) slidable on the finger bodies, and with an opener (121) and closer (122) both associated with all yarn fingers in common. In order to reduce the number of moving parts and the noise occurring in operation of the yarn changer, the opener (121) and closer (122) are in such operative connection through a reverse-coupling mechanism (114-120) that they can be actuated in common by an associated cam track (102) acting on a control member (114). The control member (114) is preferably only in the working range of the cam track (102) when a yarn change is to be effected. The invention moreover concerns a knitting machine equipped with the yarn changer, especially a rib circular knitting machine, in which a yarn catcher cooperating with the yarn changer is built into the dial.

A first rocking jack is connected to each yarn feed finger for moving the yarn feed fingers between operative and inoperative positions, and a slider member is connected to each first rocking jack. A second rocking jack is connected to each slider member and a plurality of pivotable selection members are provided for imparting rocking movement to the second rocking jacks in a predetermined pattern. The yarn feed fingers are thus moved from the operative to the inoperative position while a yarn catcher and cutter catches the yarn and cuts the yarn to form a free end which is held while the yarn feed finger is moved to the inoperative position, is in the inoperative position and is moved to the operative position by way of an extended position to present the held free end portion of the yarn to the needles for knitting into the fabric instead of being cut into waste.

A yarn-selecting device of a knitting frame comprises a mechanism for joig the yarn being knitted to a selected yarn to be knitted, which mechanism comprises a swivelling finger for forming a closed loop of the yarn to be knitted. Two levers form an open loop of the yarn being knitted and insert it through the closed loop of the yarn to be knitted on the finger. A hooking lever is provided for pulling the yarn to be knitted through the open loop of the yarn being knitted, after which the open loop-forming lever is retracted thus removing the closed loop from the finger, and the yarn being knitted is cut by a knife while the end of the yarn to be knitted is released from a gripper.
