In the method, correction is made with respect to a predetermined position for commencing a braking operation so as to stop the mechanisms at said positions correctly. This invention relates to a warp knitting machine in which the knitting elements and each of the warp beams are driven by separate electric motors, powered from a common electrical network. An electric clutch is included in the drive connection between each warp beam and its electric motor and said clutch is energized by the same electric network which powers the electric motors. Between the shaft of the dobby and the chain pinion which drives the regulator of the loom there is interposed a differential reverser whose satellites are borne by a race axially moveable coil. The latter is moveable through the unweaving circuit so that the reverser is automatically actuated during unweaving and causes the regulator and the woven fabric to move backwards while the dobby continues to rotate in the same direction (electronic program).

The weaving machine is equipped with an electromotive main drive and the shedding machine is equipped with an electromotive auxiliary drive. In the method the shedding machine is started at a time point (t1) that lies before the starting time point of the weaving machine, and, upon a triggered interruption of the weaving process, a shedding machine comes to the standstill at a time point (t5) that lies after the standstill time point (t4) of the weaving machine.

The brake uses a slow brake feature whereby a positioning member, such as a lever, is actuated directly via a first spring to cause braking in response to faults only on the weaving side as well as a fast or normal brake feature whereby the positioning member is able to transmit the braking force of a second spring to effect braking in response to faults on the weaving side or mechanical side. The second spring acts on the positioning member via an abutment which is moved against the positioning member upon release of the second spring. The second spring can be released via an electromagnet in response to a weaving fault on the weaving side or by a stop-motion rod in response to a mechanical fault.
