A metal complex colorant represented by formula 1 may embody various colors and has improved fastness, such as light resistance, water resistance and the like: wherein each of A1 and A2 is independently a moiety which includes a substituted or unsubstituted C2-C30 alkenylene group having at least one double bond and is conjugated with an azo group; each of X1 and X2 is selected from the group consisting of a hydroxy group, a C1-C4 alkoxy group, a carboxyl group, and a substituted or unsubstituted amino group;M is a polyvalent transition metal; L is a neutral or anionic ligand; n is an integer from 1 to 3; and J is a linker. The metal complex colorant may be used in various fields employing colors, such as fibers, foods, drugs, cosmetics, coatings, inks or ceramics.

Chrome-complexed hexadentate dyes which include an ortho, ortho-dihydroxy azo or azomethine dye moiety, a colorless ligand which is a radical of an iminodiacetic acid and a linkage connecting the ligand to the dye moiety. In one embodiment the dyes include a photographically useful group and are also useful in photographic applications.

Novel yellow 2:1 azo-azo or azo-azomethine chrome complexed dye developer particularly useful in diffusion transfer photographic products and processes are presented by this invention. The novel 2:1 chrome complexed dye developers have the following structure: ##STR1## where each A is a phenyl radical; each B is a phenyl or nitrogen containing heterocyclic radical; Y is a silver halide developing substituent; each n is 0 or 1 but at least one n must be 1; R is N or CH; R.sup.1 is ##STR2## if R is N but R.sup.1 is --O-- if R is CH and X is a cation.

2:1-chromium complex dyes of the formula: ##STR1## in which: A is the radical of a carbocyclic diazo component with a complex-forming hydroxy or carboxy group adjacent to the azo bridge;B is the radical of a carbocyclic, heterocyclic or open-chain coupling component with a complex-forming hydroxy or amino group adjacent to the azo bridge;D is the radical of a carbocyclic aldehyde with a complex-forming hydroxy group adjacent to the azomethine bond;E is an aliphatic radical with a complex-forming amino group; and n is the number of carboxy groups not participating in the formation of the complex and the sulfonic acid groups.The dyes are eminently suitable for dyeing natural and synthetic polyamides, clear shades with good fastness properties being obtained.

This invention relates to color providing compounds useful as dye image-forming materials in color photographic processes. These compounds comprise a complete dye, i.e., a dye radical comprising the chromophoric system of a dye, such as, an azo, anthraquinone, azomethine or phthalocyanine dye and a cyclic moiety capable of undergoing cleavage in the presence of silver ion and/or soluble silver complex containing the group ##STR1## wherein said C atom common to said S and N atoms is a tetrahedral carbon atom possessing 4 single covalent bonds. Preferred compounds comprise the radical of an organic dye substituted with [(L).sub.m-1 -Y] wherein L is a divalent organic linking group containing at least one carbon atom, m is a positive integer 1 or 2, and Y is a cyclic moiety selected from ##STR2## WHEREIN R.sup.1 is hydrogen or a monovalent organic radical; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical; and Z represents the carbon atoms necessary to complete a ring system having 4 to 20 atoms, said cyclic moiety (a) being attached to a carbon atom of said dye by a single covalent bond when m is 1 and attached to the carbon atom of said linking group L by a single covalent bond when m is 2 and ##STR3## WHEREIN R.sup.1 and Z have the same meaning given above, said cyclic moiety (b) being attached to a carbon atom of said dye by a spiro union when m is 1 and attached to the carbon atom of said linking group L by a spiro union when m is 2.

Chromium complex dyes which, in the form of their free acid, have the formula ##STR1## wherein one X represents the sulphonic acid group and the other X represents the nitro group, Y is a sulfone or sulfonamide group and Z is an acyl group. The dyes are suitable for dyeing natural and synthetic polyamides to produce dyeings which are level and have good fastness to light, perspiration, fulling, decatizing and carbonizing.

New dyestuff salts of the formula ##EQU1## WHEREIN A denotes the radical of an anionic dyestuff, R, R.sub.1 and R.sub. 2 denote alkyl radicals with a total of 10 - 24 carbon atoms and n denotes the number 1 - 4.The dyestuff salts show excellent solubility in organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones and esters. Due to the excellent solubility in organic solvents, the dyestuffs of the instant invention are especially suitable for dyeing solutions of polymers such as polystyrene or polyamides.
