    Abstract: Embodiments herein include devices adaptable to dehydrate articles, including foods. Embodiments are shown which can be compacted for reduced storage, and/or shipping requirements and/or for other purposes. Embodiments include simple, inexpensive means for controlling dehydrating conditions, including airflow. Various article holding devices, including devices to hold foods being dehydrated, are also shown. Such devices include vertical, diagonal, and horizontal panels to secure articles. Embodiments shown have variations which include the use of non-motorized convection airflow, as well as devices which incorporate motor driven air movement means. Embodiments are shown which may be used for preparing articles, including foods, for dehydration, including slicing such articles.

    Abstract: A hand-held bagel slicer is described for circumferentially slicing a bagel into two equal halves. The slicer comprises a generally U-shaped clip attached to a handle. The clip comprises a generally semi-circular bight and two flexible legs. The legs converge slightly from the bight to their free ends to hold the bagel sideways, and the free ends are outwardly flared to facilitate insertion of the bagel for slicing. Midway between the two legs is a 2 edged knife blade. The blade has a base secured to the bight and a tip terminating in a point. The blade is about 50 to 75% of the length of the legs. The free end of the handle is generally elliptical in cross section. The handle decreases in cross-sectional size and becomes generally rectangular in shape toward the flared end. The clip is joined to a core which has one or more small cross ribs extending laterally from a center rib to match with a similarly shaped recess in the handle to prevent relative rotation between the handle and the clip. Proper tension for holding the bagel while slicing is maintained by controlling the thickness of the clip in the region of the bight.

    Abstract: A hand implement for slicing cheese, root vegetables and the like has a cutting blade (1) having an opening (4) for a cutting element (5). In order to prevent the cutting blade from sticking to the foodstuff and to prevent the sliced foodstuff (18) from sticking to the blade (1), the blade is manufactured from a bending resistant plastics material and the end parts of the cutting element (5) are cast or moulded in the blade so as to form a free slot (17) rearwardly of the cutting element (5). The slot (17) is effective to form a layer of air between the sliced foodstuff (18) and the upper surface (8) of the blade and prevents adhesion between the blade (1) and the sliced foodstuff (18).
