Abstract:
A bottle-shaped can in which a cap can be mounted on a neck portion without damaging slits and bridges. An annular bead comprises a diametrically largest portion, an upper inclined surface, and a lower inclined surface. An angle of inclination of the upper inclined surface is narrower than that of the lower inclined surface. A thread ridge comprises an incomplete thread portion in which a groove depth is shallower than an average groove depth of the thread ridge, and the incomplete thread portion is formed at one end of the thread ridge on the upper inclined surface at least partially. An angle of inclination of a lower wall of the thread ridge w is greater than that of the upper inclined surface so that a protruding corner is formed. The slits and the bridges are situated at a level lower than the protruding corner.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a press-type composite internally and externally threaded portion forming system. In this case, the press-type composite internally and externally threaded portion forming system includes an expansion-type collet core unit (10) and a contraction-type collet core unit (20) as its principal components so that internally and externally threaded portions are formed by means of a press method in a composite manner in such a way that the expansion forming force of the expansion-type collet core unit (10) and the contraction forming force of the contraction-type collet core unit (20) simultaneously act on the inner and outer circumferential surfaces of a workpiece in opposite directions.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a container, a lid body and a method of seaming a container, in which the influence of a load at the time of seaming can be made as small as possible, in the container having a seaming flange portion and a seaming curl portion notched. In a container of a structure in which a seaming flange portion formed at an open end portion of a container body, and a seaming curl portion formed on a periphery of a bottom lid are seamed to be joined to each other, and in which a notch is formed in at least one of the seaming curl portion and the seaming flange portion, a short and small curl portion in which a width of protrusion of the seaming curl portion is partially short is formed in at least one of circumferentially opposite sides of the notched portion.
Abstract:
A flange forming drill means for drilling a hole through the side of a pipe or the like and forming a hole encircling flange includes a drill rod mountable on a rotating power source with a drill bit at the lower end and associated retractable flange forming members which are extendable down below the edges of a drilled hole by turning an adjustment cone mounted on the drill rod. The adjustment cone is enclosed and keyed to an externally smooth, protective shield selectively securable to a locking ring on the drill at a plurality of relative angular positions around the drilling axis. The locking flange includes a circumferentially extending groove provided with holes or recesses at opposite ends defining terminal positions of locking so that in a first terminal locking position, the forming members are retracted completely within the outer surface of the drill bit and in a second terminal locking position the forming members extend or project outwardly from the drill bit for forming a flange around the drilled hole of a desired internal diameter as the drill bit is moved outwardly from the pipe.
Abstract:
A bulge, formed in and cut from an end closure central panel, is reformed into an opening tab by reducing the bulge height and its sidewall angle to extend its brim horizontally outward under the rim of the opening from which the bulge is cut, and the brim is coined to further extend it under the rim. Alternatively, an outwardly extending shoulder can be formed in the bulge sidewall, and ironed out to cooperate with the reduction in bulge height in extending the bulge brim outward under the rim. During reforming and coining, the bulge/opening tab is held in a substantially horizontally fixed position relative to the rim to provide a uniform brim-to-rim underlap.
Abstract:
The present method of creating a tear line in metal, of particular advantage when such a weakening line is to be uniformly reproduced in tougher sheet metal, involves combining the initial steps of (a) bending the largely unrestrained sheet material to form the closure periphery with tension inherent therein, and (b) concurrently coining longitudinally that portion of the periphery which is in tension thus to induce exactly to the required degree the fracture at the desired weakening line. Final steps of swaging and coating with sealant may then follow as hitherto taught to provide lids with easy-open closures capable of retaining fluid pressure.
Abstract:
Drill apparatus having a special drill bit with means for drilling a hole into the sidewall of a tube and upon withdrawal of the bit, for forming a flange around the drilled hole. Pins for forming the flange are movable in bores passing crosswise through the drill bit. When the rotating tip portion of the drill bit is withdrawn from the hole, the pins project from the drill bit to cause a flange encircling the hole to be formed.
Abstract:
A tag ring element having a neck portion and a base portion and bordering the openings in container walls and methods and apparatus for at least partially forming the same during the application of the closure elements to the container walls, including means for automatically feeding and positioning blanks for such tag ring elements in position for securement during the securing of closure elements about said container wall openings. The tag ring elements may be preformed to varying degrees depending upon the means for holding them in the dies and may be of varying thicknesses, depending on whether they serve as the sole securing neck for securing closure flanges to container wall openings, whether they reinforce lightweight necks formed in the container wall, or whether they principally serve to provide eyelets for the attachment of various elements thereto. In a particular instance, the tag ring element flat blanks are fed into the dies which perforate container walls, draw necks up from the same form and secure the tag ring elements thereto, and secure closure flanges within such necks in one stroke of a press. Particular feeding and holding means for the tag ring elements for the automatic application of the same to container wall necks simultaneously with the application of the closure flange to the opening being formed, is provided in the instance of single stroke application of closures to the container walls.
