    Abstract: An auto-return zip line trolley provides a vehicle that rides a suspended cable between a low point and a high point. The vehicle is urged along the cable by a remote-controlled drive wheel. A motor drives the drive wheel to roll along the cable, when engaged. When a load is applied to the vehicle, a spring-loaded sheave subassembly urges the cable away from the drive wheel, such that the vehicle rides freely from a high point to a low point on the cable. When the load is removed from the vehicle, the spring-loaded sheave subassembly urges the cable into engagement with the drive wheel to enable motor-powered propulsion of the vehicle from the low point to the high point of cable. A receiver inside the housing is in operational communication with the motor. A transmitter transmits a control signal to the receiver for regulating power and speed of the motor.

    Abstract: For zipline spring segment, the spring segment includes two spring sub-segments, an end cap, and a guide. The two spring sub-segments each include a set of spring coils, each spring coil set including a large diameter end and a small diameter end, wherein each of the spring coils of the spring segment nests completely within a neighboring spring coil and a cable passes through the spring coils. The end cap is disposed on the large diameter end of the spring coils, the end cap including a hole that receives the cable. The guide connects the two sets of spring coils of the spring sub-segments at the small diameter ends. The guide guides the cable through a center of the spring segment, wherein the guide and the end caps are configured to be in contact upon a full compression of the spring coil segment.

    Abstract: The tandem pulley comprises a pair of sheaves mounted in line between first and second flanges. A gate is fitted rotating with respect to the first flange between closed and open positions. The gate comes into contact with the second flange in the closed position to close a housing. The clamp is movable in rotation on the gate between a locking position locking the gate in the closed position and an unlocking position. The clamp has a prong pressing on the first flange and the gate in the locking position. The clamp has an actuating area separated from the first flange by the gate. Rotation of the actuating area from the locking position to the unlocking position corresponds to a movement of the actuating area away from the second flange. Rotation of the actuating area results in pivoting of the prong.

    Abstract: Described herein are latching devices where relative speed of movement between members is in part controlled or reduced via eddy current formation and in part controlled or relative motion stopped via a latch arrangement. Various embodiments are described, one being use of a conductive member; at least one magnetic field and a latch member that, prior to latching, moves independently to the at least one conductive member. A kinematic relationship exists between the conductive member and at least one magnetic field that enables the conductive member to move at a different speed relative to the magnetic field on application of an energizing force, thereby inducing an eddy current drag force by relative movement of the conductive member in the magnetic field. The eddy current drag force resulting causes movement of the conductive member causing the conductive member to engage the latch member thereby halting movement between the at least one conductive member and the at least one latch member.

    Abstract: A portable zip line emergency brake system intended to stop or slow down a zip liner (or load) on a cable while giving the control to the device user or operator on the opposite end of the zip line. As an out of control rider comes down the zip line the operator will lock the device onto the cable and roll it out onto the zip line using a combination of sending force by the operator and gravity to meet the rider's pulley. The device is adjustable for different riders' estimated weights. Once the rider's pulley comes in contact with the device far out on the cable it will use a lever camming action between two brake pads on the cable as it reverses direction. As the brake is engaged it will stop or slow the rider. The operator can then pull the rider to the end safely.

    Abstract: A top-load trolley with speed control system is disclosed. The trolley has a housing of metal plates with a series of fixed and movable parts mounted between. A number of rollers are moveably mounted in-line within the housing such that they may ride atop of a zip line and support the weight of the trolley and a passenger. An additional roller is placed in opposition to the load-bearing rollers, arranged to contact the zip line along its underside. Thus, at least three rollers may be configured to produce an adjustable amount of friction on the zip line, thereby providing a more controlled speed down a zip line course. Additionally, an emergency brake mechanism that may be used in conjunction with the top-load trolley with speed control system is disclosed.

    Abstract: Described herein is an apparatus and method to convey an object through the air in a controlled and repeatable manner. The apparatus may comprise an object attached to at least one resilient member, the resilient member or members constraining object movement in a substantially vertical y-axis direction. The apparatus may also comprise at least one support member coupled to the at least one resilient member, and the support member or members constrain object movement in a substantially horizontal x-axis direction. In use, the resilient member is energised, movement initiated, and object movement then occurs in both an x-axis and y-axis direction, the movement path substantially governed by the resilient member(s) and the support member(s). The apparatus and method may allow the object to experience a variety of movement sensations, one being the feeling of flight or gliding.
