Abstract: Some embodiments include club heads having reinforced club head faces. In one example, the club head comprises a variable face thickness profile with thickened and thinned regions. The face includes a thinned perimeter region positioned near a perimeter of the face, and a thickened central region positioned over a geometric center of the face. The club head further comprises a 360 undercut that extends along the entire perimeter of the face. The club head further comprises one or more reinforcement ribs to improve the frequency response during golf ball impacts. The combination of the thinned perimeter region, thickened central region, and 360 undercut reinforces the club head while permitting the face to bend. Other embodiments of related club heads and methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: A golf club head, when oriented in a reference position, includes: a striking face; a top portion; and a sole portion opposite the top portion. In a virtual vertical plane extending in the front-to-rear direction and passing through the sole contact point, (i) the sole portion includes a sole length Ls measured in the front-to-rear direction from the leading edge to the trailing edge and (ii) the sole contact point is spaced rearwardly from the leading edge by a distance D1 no greater than 0.8*Ls.

Abstract: A cast cup can include a forward portion of a golf club head, including a hosel, forward portions of a crown, sole, heel, and toe, and a face portion or an opening to receive a face insert. A rear ring can be formed separately from the cast cup and coupled to heel and toe portions of the cast cup to form a rigid club head body, such that the club head body defines a hollow interior region, a crown opening, a sole opening, and/or face opening. The cast cup and rear ring can be made of different materials, including various metals, composites, and polymers. Composite crown, sole, and/or face inserts can be coupled to the crown, sole, and/or face openings. Weights can be coupled to the cast cup and to the rear ring. The face can have a complex variable thickness geometry.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a golf club head with a plurality of stiffening members proximate the face, and particularly solid rods or a plate with one or more cutouts, is disclosed herein. The method includes the steps of preparing a wax of a golf club head body having at least one through-hole, a hollow interior, and at least one receiving pocket, preparing waxes of one or more stiffening members, inserting the wax of the stiffening members into the through-hole and seating its opposite end in the receiving pocket, bonding each of the stiffening members to the body with an adhesive material to form a combined wax mold, and casting a golf club head from the combined wax mold.

Abstract: A ball striking device, such as an iron-type golf club head, includes a face having a ball striking surface and a body connected to the face. The body has a sole surface extending rearward from a leading edge of the face, and a toe surface extending rearward from a toe edge of the face. The sole surface configured to confront the playing surface. The iron-type club head may have an elongated channel extending from a heel side in the sole member to an end point within the toe surface. The elongated channel is recessed from the sole surface and toe surfaces and is spaced from the leading and toe edges of the face. The iron-type club head may also have a plurality of weighting elements that are adjustable by the user.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments of iron-type golf club heads that include weight reducing features in the topline region of the club head that facilitate changing the Z-up location of the club head. In some embodiments the body includes a weight reducing feature in a topline weight reduction zone of the club head that extends over the entire face length from the par line to the toe portion ending at approximately the Z-up location of the iron type golf club head. The weight reducing feature results in a mass savings of about 2 g to about 20 g, and a Zup shift of about 0.5 mm to about 2.0 mm.
