    摘要: An active medical device to diagnose a patient respiratory profile. This device is able to measure respiratory activity and deliver a signal (26) representative of the periodicity and amplitude of the successive respiratory cycles of the patient, in particular, a of minute ventilation (MV) signal. The device is able to analyze the aforementioned signal and discriminate between various types of respiratory profiles, in particular, to diagnose a respiratory profile of the Cheyne-Stokes type. This is achieved by detecting an alternation of respiratory cycles of hyperventilation (20) separated by periods of respiratory pause (22) or periods of hypoventilation or normal ventilation (24) and, in the latter case, to discriminate between periods of respiratory pause, corresponding to a profile of the Cheyne-Stokes (CSR) type, and periods of hypoventilation or normal ventilation, corresponding to a profile of the periodic breathing (PB) type.

    摘要: A method for measuring nitric oxide concentration in exhaled air through a blow tube of a measuring equipment. The nitric oxide concentration is measured in the exhaled air flowing in the blow tube, a flow rate of the exhaled air flowing through the blow tube is measured during the exhalation and flow resistance of the blow tube is adjusted on the basis of the measured flow rate value such that the flow rate of the exhaled air substantially remains at a preset value. The method is used to diagnose an inflammatory lung disease in a patient whereby an increased nitric oxide concentration indicates an inflammatory lung disease, such as alveolitis.

    摘要: An adapter for interfacing a pyro/piezo sensor to a polysomnograph machine comprises a differential input amplifier coupled to receive the raw transducer signals from a PVDF film transducer to provide a requisite gain while rejecting common mode noise. The resulting amplified signal is filtered to separate the pyro signal from the piezo signal and the piezo signal is further applied to half-wave rectifier stages that function to remove baseline noise from the piezo signal before its being applied to a microphone channel of an existing PSG machine.

It further comprises an output (26) connected to the storage means (2) for delivering each transformed intensity level in correspondence with an associated frequency, and means for representing (6, 90, 91) intensity levels transformed on the basis of frequencies, to obtain a spectral representation of the auscultation sound. The invention is characterised in that the processing module is further capable of evaluating a set of transformed intensity levels for each selected time, and the storage means (2) store each intensity level transformed on the basis of an associated frequency, and of a selected time, thereby providing a three-dimensional representation in time and in frequencies of the auscultation sound.

    摘要: A new method and a device are disclosed to determine physiologic parameters of a subject by analyzing it's breathing gas with an electrochemical sensor. The measured components of the breathing gas allow for many conclusions about the condition of the subjects's pulmonary system. It is therefore an objective of this invention to determine physiologic parameters from measuring the partial pressure of oxygen in the mainstream of the breathing gas. According to the invention the measurement can be performed non invasive and allows for conclusions about the respiratory and metabolic system of a subject. The invention makes a continuous measurement of the oxygen partial pressure possible, that almost shows no time delay. The invention allows for instance the determination of parameters like the oxygen concentration in the breathing gas, the oxygen consumption of the subject, the heart frequency, the respiratory quotient, the compliance of the pulmonary tract and other physiologic parameters.

A controller is operably connected to the weight sensor to receive the weight information and is adapted to dynamically determine at least one of a respiratory phase of the user and a respiratory amplitude of the user using changes in the weight information over a period of time resulting from buoyancy changes of the user. The respiratory phase and/or the respiratory amplitude can be utilized to detect volitional breath commands, to detect pain thresholds of the user, to provide breath synchronized manipulations to the user, and to provide breath synchronized coaching signals to the user.

The portable recording unit (10) comprises horse restraining apparatus (200) wherein microphone (12) is mounted on support (14), which is secured to nose-band (202) of horse restraining apparatus (200), and recorder (16). When horse restraining apparatus (200) is mounted onto head (102) of horse (100), microphone (12) is positioned forward to and between nostrils (108) of horse (100). Recorder (16) is fastened to neck (104) of horse (100) or is located at a remote location. Portable recording unit (10) allows recording of the upper airway respiratory sounds made by the exercising horse (100).
