A hydraulic expansion chuck for receiving a tool includes a chuck body, an expansion bushing which is received in the chuck body and defines a chuck opening, a pressure chamber which is interposed between the expansion bushing and the chuck body, and a reduction sleeve. The reduction sleeve is received in the chuck opening of the expansion bushing and defines a tool holder receptacle for receiving the tool to be chucked. The reduction sleeve includes a connector element configured to releasably attach the reduction sleeve to the chuck body. The reduction sleeve also may include an adjustment element configured to adjust the axial position of the tool in the tool holder receptacle.

A surgical apparatus which includes a handpiece having a passage. The retention assembly includes a pair of radially movable buttons, aligned in axially extending passages in communication with the passage and can engage with and cause rotational movement of a collet member assembly rotatably supported in the passage. The collet assembly includes rolling lock members which can be moved by the collet member from a lock position, in which the lock members are forced by the wall of the passage to extend inwardly of the collet member and an unlocked position, in which the lock members are aligned with a recess in the wall of the passage and are not forced to extend inwardly of the collet member. The surgical apparatus may find particular use with irrigation fluid, suction, and powering of a surgical tool. The passage may include a cutting blade retention assembly integrated in the passage.

A surgical apparatus which includes a handpiece having a passage. The invention relates to a tool holder with a tool holding fixture, in particular a clamping chuck such as a contracting chuck, a draw-in collect chuck, a hydraulic expanding chuck and a high-precision chuck, and a shank of a tool, in particular a rotary tool, accommodated in it, wherein the tool holder contains a means for preventing the tool from being pulled out, locking it against axial displacement. This pull-out preventing unit comprises at least one locking element and at least one locking groove, which corresponds to the said locking element, receives it and interacts with it in a positively locking manner. In this case, both the locking element and the locking groove are formed at least partly in the manner of a ball head. Preferably, the tool has the locking grooves. On account of preferably spirally arranged locking grooves along the cylindrical shank of rotary tools, the direction of pitch of which grooves corresponds to the direction of the grooves of the tool, axial locking of the tool is obtained, so that the tool cannot be axially displaced from the tool holder during operation. In addition, force-exerting elements are arranged, with the effect of making the tool lie against the pull-out preventer without play after shrink-fitting.

The present invention relates to a holding device for studs having a radially projecting flange section. The holding device comprises a collet component having a clamping section and a hollow insertion section. The clamping section is formed by clamping surfaces which are provided at the free ends of a plurality of clamping arms designed to exert a radially inwardly directed clamping force for clamping the stud in place. A securing device is arranged on the insertion section and is designed in such a way that a flange section of a stud directed past the securing device is mounted in a securing position between the securing device and the clamping section. The clamping arms are of the same length and at least two of the clamping arms each have, as a securing device, a radially inwardly directed securing lug.

A centering and holding fixture includes a base, a piston disposed within a piston chamber at least partially located within the base, and a radially flexible ring connected to the piston by force transmission apparatus operable to contract and expand the radially flexible ring by upward and downward motions respectively of the piston. The flexible ring may be slotted and may include alternating inwardly and outwardly extending radial slots extending axially through the flexible ring and extending radially inwardly and radially outwardly from radially outer and inner surfaces of the flexible ring respectively to axial stress relief holes extending axially through the flexible ring. The apparatus may further be operable to contract the radially flexible ring when the piston chamber is pressurized and to expand it when the piston chamber is depressurized. Spring loaded clamps mounted to the base may be used to secure a workpiece to the holding fixture.

The present collet liner is fabricated from a precision rod of less hard material than the hard material of a collet to interpose and coact radially within the collet barrel. The liner has an inwardly directed common rod portion which is externally threaded at its rear end while the front end has three symmetrical triangular finger sections separated by longitudinal slots which extend inwardly through the finger sections into grooves of three symmetrically disposed sections of a web portion. The externally threaded section is releasably mountable within the internally threaded barrel of the collet having an internally threaded collar. The length of the liner is fixedly secured by fastening flats machined on the externally threaded section abutting the cylindrical base.

Cojoined collet has a center housing with opposing central orifices, each central orifice capable of receiving an externally positioned shaft, and further having a fastener about each opposing orifice, wherein the externally positioned shaft is releasably connectable on a common axis of rotation through the opposing central orifices and can be held fast by the fastener about the central orifice which receives the externally positioned shaft, and it is finely balanced about its intended axis of rotation. It may be coupled in series with a shaft, which may be rigid or flexible, and be embodied for employment in rotating devices, for an example, such as the high-speed simulator-viscometer of U.S. Pat. No. 4,445,365.
