摘要:
A headset includes an acoustic structure, a first microphone located outside the acoustic structure, a second microphone located inside the acoustic structure, and an output driver configured to receive an antinoise signal based on a combination of input from the first and second microphones. A voice signal of a user of the headset is generated using input from the first and second microphones. The first microphone could be a feed-forward microphone that provides input to a feed-forward filter to produce a filtered feed-forward signal for producing the antinoise signal. The second microphone could be a feedback microphone that provides input to a feedback filter to produce a filtered feedback signal for producing the antinoise signal.

A noise cancelling headset includes an earpiece, the earpiece including a feedback microphone, a feed-forward microphone, and an output driver. A first feedback filter receives an input from at least the first feedback microphone and produces a first filtered feedback signal. A first feed-forward filter receives an input from at least the first feed-forward microphone and produces a first filtered feed-forward signal. A first summer combines the first filtered feedback signal and the first filtered feed-forward signal and produces a first output signal. An output interface provides the first output signal as an output from the headset.

A sound quality metric may be determined at a near-end telephone system, the sound quality metric associated with far-end sound quality received at a far-end telephone system. A signal adjustment may be determined, based on the sound quality metric. The signal adjustment may thus be provided at an earpiece of the near-end telephone system. In this way, a user of the near-end telephone system may be alerted that the sound quality of a far-end user is unacceptably low, so that the near-end user may take corrective action at the near end to improve the far-end sound quality.

A method, system, and apparatus for attenuating a dialing confirmation tone includes receiving an enable signal from a tactile user input device, generating at least one dual-tone multiple frequency (DTMF) tone, and communicating the at least one DTMF tone to a telephone line. The method further includes attenuating a signal level of the at least one DTMF tone by a predetermined amount to produce at least one attenuated dialing confirmation tone in response to receiving the enable signal, and communicating the at least one attenuated dialing confirmation tone to an audio output device.

A portable telephony device has a mobile phone housing. Integrated in the housing are memory to store a telephony module, an earphone type detect module, a headphone port, and a processor. The headphone port may be a wired headset jack to receive a mating wired headset plug, or it may be a communications subsystem that makes a wireless connection with a wireless headset. The earphone type detect module, when executed by the processor, is to determine what type of earphone or headset is connected to the headphone port. The telephony module when executed by the processor is to adjust a sidetone function of the device as a function of the determined type of earphone, and apply sidetone in accordance with said adjusted sidetone function. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for processing communication signals in a telephony or communication system. In various embodiments, the method or the apparatus comprises identifying a first signal which comprises an incoming communication signal and a feedback signal, controlling a logic for cancelling or suppressing a feedback effect based at least in part upon the first signal, processing the first signal using an adaptive filter based at least in part upon the first signal and a result of controlling the logic for cancelling or suppressing the feedback effect, and causing the processed first signal to be transmitted to a first output device. In some embodiments, the method and the apparatus further comprise identifying a communication context which the communication system is currently in. In some embodiments, the method and apparatus further comprise determining a filter coefficient for the adaptive filter.

This invention describes a mobile phone with a means of measuring a background sound level of an environment. When a user either initiates or receives a phone call, sound levels before and during the call are compared. Once it is decided that the voice is too loud based on a predetermined criteria, the phone gives the user a feedback indicating that the voice is too loud and potentially a disruption to other people. Furthermore, the present invention provides a feedback for a voice adjustment by utilizing a sidetone adaptive signal that filters the user own speech directly to an earpiece.

A handheld telephone set used by connecting a dual-ear mount type or single-ear mount type earphone that automatically sets an optimal signal level of an ambient sound according to the earphone type used, provided with: a telephone set main body unit, a detection device for detecting which type of earphone is mounted to the telephone set main body unit, an amplifier for amplifying the ambient sound to be delivered to the earphone, and a control device for controlling a signal level of the ambient sound output from the amplifier according to an output of the detection device. When either of these earphones is mounted, the control device controls the signal level of the ambient sound output from the amplifier to be fed back according to an output of the detection device.

A telephone receiver circuit with sidetone signal generation controlled by voice activity detection in accordance with the present invention uses the voice activity detector (VAD) to detect the presence of voice activity within the microphone signal and dynamically adjust the sidetone signal generation to compensate for noisy environments by eliminating or reducing the sidetone signal in the absence of voice activity. Hence, a sidetone signal is generated in the presence of voice activity, when feedback is required, while the sidetone signal is not generated in the absence of voice activity, since audio feedback for the user is not required then.
