    摘要: A method of operating a quadrupole device (10) is disclosed. The quadrupole device (10) is operated in a mode of operation by applying a repeating voltage waveform comprising a main drive voltage and at least one auxiliary drive voltage is applied to the quadrupole device to the quadrupole device (10). The intensity of ions passing into the quadrupole device is varied with time in synchronisation with the repeating voltage waveform. This may be done such that the number of ions per unit phase which initially experience a phase within a first range of phases of the repeating voltage waveform is greater than the number of ions per unit phase which initially experience a phase within a second range of phases of the repeating voltage waveform.

    摘要: This system and method disclosed herein are configured to improve high mass range ion trap performance by use of a multi-directional segmented scan approach. In some embodiments of the system and method disclosed herein, the mass range of conventional ion trap technology may be extended/increased without changing the hardware or compromising lower range mass/charge efficiency. Specifically, the system and methods disclosed herein use a segmented, bi-directional scan that increases the mass range of an ion trap mass spectrometer and circumvents the problem of mass discrimination during mass analysis in the high Thompson value range.

    摘要: In a scan measurement in which a mass scan is repeated across a predetermined mass range, when a voltage is returned from a termination voltage of one scan to an initiation voltage for the next scan, an undershoot or other drawbacks occur to destabilize the voltage value. Therefore, an appropriate waiting time is required. Conventionally, this waiting time has been set to be constant regardless of the analysis conditions. On the other hand, in the quadrupole mass spectrometer according to the present invention, the mass difference ΔM between the scan termination mass and the scan initiation mass is computed based on the specified mass range, and a different settling time is set in accordance with this mass difference. When the mass difference ΔM is small and hence requires only a short voltage stabilization time, a relatively short settling time is set. This shortens the cycle period of the mass scan, which increases the temporal resolution.

    摘要: An ion guide is disclosed wherein an axial DC voltage barrier is created at the exit of the ion guide. A primary RF voltage is applied to the electrodes in order to confine ions radially within the ion guide. A supplemental RF voltage is also applied to the electrodes. The supplemental RF voltage has a greater axial repeat length than that of the primary RF voltage. The amplitude of the supplemental RF voltage is increased with time causing ions to become unstable and gain sufficient axial kinetic energy such that the ions overcome the axial DC voltage barrier. Ions emerge axially from the ion guide in mass to charge ratio order.

    摘要: A novel scanning method of a mass spectrometer apparatus is introduced so as to relate by simple time shifts, rather than time dilations, the component signal (“peak”) from each ion even to an arbitrary reference signal produced by a desired homogeneous population of ions. Such a method and system, as introduced herein, is enabled in a novel fashion by scanning exponentially the RF and DC voltages on a quadrupole mass filter versus time while maintaining the RF and DC in constant proportion to each other. In such a novel mode of operation, ion intensity as a function of time is the convolution of a fixed peak shape response with the underlying (unknown) distribution of discrete mass-to-charge ratios (mass spectrum). As a result, the mass distribution can be reconstructed by deconvolution, producing a mass spectrum with enhanced sensitivity and mass resolving power.

    摘要: Systems and methods are used to band-pass filter ions from a mass range. A full spectrum is received for a full scan of a mass range using a tandem mass spectrometer. A mass selection window of the full spectrum is selected and a set of tuning parameter values is selected. The tandem mass spectrometer is instructed to perform a scan of the mass selection window using the set of tuning parameter values. A spectrum is received for the scan from the tandem mass spectrometer. A band-pass filtered spectrum is created for the mass range that includes values from the spectrum for the mass selection window of the mass range. Systems and methods are also used to band-pass filter ions from two or more mass selection windows across the mass range and to filter out ions from a mass selection window between two band-pass mass selection windows.
