Abstract:
The present disclosure generally relates to magnetic recording devices with stable magnetization. The magnetic recording device comprises a lower leading shield, an upper leading shield disposed on the lower leading shield, a main pole disposed above the upper leading shield, a trailing shield disposed above the main pole and upper leading shield, and an upper return pole disposed above the trailing shield. A first non-magnetic layer is disposed between the lower leading shield and the upper leading shield, and a second non-magnetic layer is disposed between the trailing shield and the upper return pole. The lower leading shield has a different domain state than the upper leading shield, and the trailing shield and the upper leading shield have a same domain state. The materials and thickness of the first and second non-magnetic layers result in magnetostatic coupling or anti-ferromagnetic coupling.

The system also includes an applicator in a drive in which the magnetic head resides, the applicator being configured to apply the organic coating directly to the magnetic head without contacting the magnetic head. At least one guide is configured to create a spacing between the magnetic head and the guide, wherein the spacing is sufficient to insert the applicator into the spacing.
Abstract:
A PMR writer is disclosed that minimizes pole erasure during non-writing and maximize write field during writing through an AFM-FM phase change material that is in an anti-ferromagnetic (AFM) state during non-writing and switches to a ferromagnetic (FM) state by heating during writing. The main pole layer including the write pole may be comprised of a laminated structure having a plurality of “n” ferromagnetic layers and “n−1” AFM-FM phase change material layers arranged in an alternating manner. The AFM-FM phase change material is preferably a FeRh, FeRhPt, FeRhPd, or FeRhIr and may also be used as a flux gate to prevent yoke flux from leaking into the write pole tip. Heating for the AFM to FM transition is provided by write coils and/or a coil located near the AFM-FM phase change material to enable faster transition times.

Each of the plurality of high moment layers has a magnetic moment of greater than 2.4 Tesla. The at least one soft magnetic layer has a hard axis coercivity of not more than twenty Oersted. The high moment film has a total thickness of at least one thousand Angstroms.
Abstract:
A method in one embodiment includes applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials; and storing the magnetic head. A method in another embodiment includes applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials, the organic coating being applied to the magnetic head after the head is installed in the magnetic storage system. Another method includes fabricating a tape having an applicator portion for applying an organic coating to a magnetic head for reducing exposure of the head to oxidation promoting materials; applying the organic coating to the applicator portion of the tape; and applying a lubricant to a data portion of the tape. A method in another embodiment includes fabricating a tape having a data portion, and a cleaning portion for removing an organic coating from a magnetic head.

Heating for the AFM to FM transition is provided by write coils and/or a coil located near the AFM-FM phase change material to enable faster transition times.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a perpendicular recording head for a hard disk drive. The perpendicular recording head includes a yoke that has a plurality of grooves essentially perpendicular to a magnetic flux that flows in a vertical direction relative to the yoke. The perpendicular grooves inhibit residual magnetism in the vertical direction and enhance yoke domain stability.

Abstract:
There is provided a perpendicular magnetic recording head device which can increase magnetic field gradient to exhibit excellent recording performance while maintaining magnetic field intensity capable of performing information recording well. In a perpendicular magnetic recording head device composed of a main magnetic pole layer and a return path layer which are laminated with a nonmagnetic insulating layer therebetween, the return path layer has a two-layer structure composed of a low saturation magnetic flux density layer (low Bs layer), and a high saturation magnetic flux density layer (high Bs layer) formed an the low Bs layer and made of a material that has a relatively high saturation magnetic flux density. In a front end surface of the return path layer, the low Bs layer and the high Bs layer are exposed.

Embodiments in accordance with present invention provide a magnetic head and a magnetic disc drive capable of preventing a side erase while providing excellent recording characteristics. According to one embodiment, in order to prevent the side erase in an increased skew angle state, a first magnetic pole surface is formed in such a shape that the projection area of the first magnetic pole surface follows a track edge positioned on the boundary side in the track in the state where the first magnetic pole surface is positioned on the track at the innermost periphery thereof included in a first region. Likewise, to prevent the side erase in the increased skew angle state, a second magnetic pole surface is formed in such a shape that the projection area of the second magnetic pole surface follows a track edge positioned on the boundary side with respect to a track in the state where the second magnetic pole surface is positioned on the track at the outermost periphery thereof included in a second region.
