摘要： A rotary switch rotates about an axis which is at acute angles to a lower cartridge surface and a cartridge end so that a first display surface and a second display surface may be independently accessed by disparate components residing in disparate planes. The display surfaces are generally orthogonal to each other and can have multiple facets, with each facet containing a subset of information. To aid this optical interrogation, the display surfaces may be generally orthogonal to the disparate interrogating components.

摘要： A recording medium enabling type determination and writing possibility determination for various types of disks. Opening and closing means for opening and closing a detection hole of a cartridge forms a plane substantially horizontal level with a reference plane of the cartridge at a position of the detection hole when the detection hole is in a closed state. The cartridge has at least a first detection hole and a second detection hole formed therein. The second detection hole (H1) is opened and closed by the opening and closing means, and the first detection hole (H0) is in an open state at all times. A disk drive apparatus or a disk determining method determines, together with a disk type, determining information contents (for example writing possibility) based on one or a plurality of detection holes formed in the cartridge, on the basis of an open/closed state of the detection hole and a result of the disk type using a signal based on reflected light from the loaded recording medium.

摘要： A write enabling device 30 includes a hexahedron-shaped plug 32 fabricated from resilient material such as polyethylene. The plug 32 is sized to be snugly accepted by the write protect detection cavity 102 of a tape cassette. When the plug 32 is inserted into the detection cavity 102, the writing (recording) feature of the player/recorder is enabled. A flange 42 assists in the removal of an installed plug 32. Other embodiments include a second planar member 568 which may be selectively rotated to cover or uncover an aperture 562 positioned over the write protect detection cavity 102, and a cover member 668 which may be selectively slidably positioned to cover or uncover an aperture 662 positioned over the write protect detection cavity 102.

摘要： A write/protect tab assembly including a substantially planar jacket base and a write/protect tab slidably mounted in a tab pocket formed in the jacket base, such that the tab is encaptured by the jacket base. The present invention also includes a method of encapturing the tabs in the jacket base before the cover is positioned on the jacket base. The encapturing step alternatively includes: forming a latch at the tab pocket for receiving the tab; forming shelf-like projections on the tab pocket for receiving corresponding recesses formed in the tab; attaching a cap to the tab via snapping, press fitting, ultrasonically welding, swedging, or gluing; or forming guides on the tab pocket for receiving the sides of the tab.
