摘要： A reel assembly includes a housing, an axle within the housing, a reel within the housing, a first spring and a second spring. The housing has a fixed connection portion. The fixed connection portion is fixed from rotation relative to the housing. The axle is configured to rotate about an axis of rotation. The reel is configured to rotate about the axis of rotation and the axle. The first spring is coupled between the axle and the fixed connection portion of the housing. The second spring is coupled between the axle and the reel. The second spring has a torque profile associated therewith different from a torque profile of the first spring. Rotation of the reel relative to the housing in a direction tending to tension the second spring transmits rotational movement to the axle through the tensioning of the second spring. Such rotational movement of the axle is applied to the first spring to tension the first spring.

摘要： A rule assembly includes a housing, a reel rotatably mounted in the housing, and an elongated blade having an end hook member on a free end thereof. The elongated blade is arranged to be wound on the reel and to be extendable through an opening in the housing. The end hook member is formed of sheet metal to include a mounting portion and a hook portion bent at a generally right angle from an end of the mounting portion. The end hook member includes a pair of generally upwardly extending side edges, a generally laterally extending lower edge, and recessed edge portions disposed at corner portions at which the upwardly extending side edges and the laterally extending lower edge intersect.

摘要： A tape measure includes a case with an opening, a core inside the case, a spring extending around and imparting a radially inward force to most of a circumference of the core, and a graduated free metal tape with an arcuate cross-section that is wound around the core between the core and spring. The free metal tape is not connected to the case and core and its entire length is passable through the opening. The spring urges the tape flat against the core. The tape may be graduated on both sides. The case may include rollers that roll on an external periphery of the tape wound around the core and that are urged radially inward by the spring, and plural slots in which respective axes of the rollers are displaced in response to a change of diameter of the external periphery of the tape wound around the core.

摘要： A tape measure with laser beam (10) comprises a case (12), a laser device (70) carried in the case and capable of transmitting a laser beam therefrom, and a roll (24) of measuring tape (25) supported in the case. The measuring tape roll is disposed to be rewound into the case by a conventional spring mechanism. A one-way brake (38) is couplable to the measuring tape roll for preventing rewinding of the measuring tape back into the case. A brake override 50 permits retraction of the measuring tape into the case. A second brake (92) is adapted to hold the tape measuring roll securely in place when a pencil (86) is inserted into the case. Power supply apparati, comprising parallelly connected batteries (78), solar cells (82) and a dynamo (83), are electrically coupled to the laser for enabling laser beam transmission therefrom.

摘要： A compact extra-length tape measuring device with capacity for four hundred foot measurement, sized so that no dimesion exceeds six inches, uses a narrow thin tape suitably marked with measuring indicia and held to be unwound and rewound on a space-saving offset storage spool. Rotation of the spool during tape withdrawal tightens a coiled flat spring through a gear reduction drive; the tape, when released, is automatically rewound on the spool by action of the unwinding spring. A lock-release mechanism and a tape-viewing magnifying window also may be provided.
