    摘要: A drilling apparatus including a drill bit and a nutation device. The drilling apparatus is configured to enable the drill bit to be rotated at a rotation frequency while the nutation device simultaneously nutates the drill bit at a nutation frequency. The nutation device may include a vibrating device for imposing vibrations upon the drilling apparatus at a vibration frequency, thereby causing nutation of the drill bit at the nutation frequency. The drilling apparatus may include a tuning mechanism for tuning the vibration frequency of the vibrating device. A method including rotating a drill bit at a rotation frequency and simultaneously nutating the drill bit at a nutation frequency.

    摘要: Drill bits with at least two roller cones of different diameters and/or utilizing different cutter pitches in order to reduce bit tracking during drilling operations are described. In particular, earth boring drill bits are provided, the bits having two or more roller cones, and optionally one or more cutter blades, the bits being arranged for reducing tracking by the roller cone teeth during operation by adjusting the teeth spacing, cone pitch angle, and/or the diameter of one or more of the cones. These configurations enable anti-tracking behavior and enhanced drilling efficiency during bit operation.

    摘要: A lubricating nutating single cone drill bit 10 includes bit shank 12 with an axially skewed journal 18 rotatably retaining cutter body 22. Bearings (26, 28, 30, 32) enable rotation of the cutter body 22. Lubrication flows to a gap between the axially skewed journal 18 and cutter body 22 from lubricant chamber 76 having plunger 80 acted on by an annulus fluid, the gap bounded by first 66 and second 68 radial dynamic seals. A fluid passage 90 extending through the bit 10 communicates with fluid inlet port 88 on the proximal end 16 of the bit shank 12. Fluid passage 90 also communicates with a first fluid outlet port 98 on the distal end 36 of the axially skewed journal 18 and with a second fluid outlet port 94 formed on a lateral portion of bit shank 12.

    摘要: This invention relates to a single cone bit with offset axis and composite cones for oil and gas drilling, mining and other subterranean drilling operations. The bit consists of a head body and a cone. The cone section has a shape of composite cones. The outer circumference of the cone is composed of from back face of the cone to top of the cone an extended gage surface, an outer cone surface and a main cone surface. A plurality of cutting elements is mounted onto each cone surface. A head journal at lower end of the head body is for rotatablely connection with the cone. Between the axis of head journal and the axis of the bit, there is an offset value d along rotating direction of the cone. A gage pad is arranged on head body at a location opposite to the offset direction of the head journal. The gage pad is fitted with inserts or hardfaced with wear resistant alloy to prevent bit from whirling and prevent head body from being worn out and to ensure gage protection. Junk slots are machined along the side of head body and jet ports are arranged at lower bevel of the head body to guarantee cuttings removal and effective cleaning results. This invention improves the bit's ability to break rocks through impact for specific use in hard formations. The bit performance is obviously improved and overall drilling cost reduced.

    摘要: A partially solid head bit having a flow passage therethrough located at approximately the center of the bit is shown. The bit is designed for use in conjunction with a hammer action drilling apparatus. The flow passage extends through a shank of the bit to the bottom thereof. Surrounding the shank is a substantially hemispherical spiraled burr having an opening therethrough. The burr pushes against a shoulder of the shank during drilling. The mating surfaces of the shank and burr are lubricated by a suitable oil reservoir. On spirals of the burr and on the lower end of the shank are mounted hardened inserts for impacting against and breaking up the formation through which the bit may drill. The bottom of the shank may be even with, extend through, or be recessed with respect to the lower edge of the burr. The shank is angled a few degrees off the centerline of the drilling string to cause a wobbling action upon rotating the drill bit.

    摘要: A novel drilling bit constituted by a cylindrical roller having a diameter which is smaller than the diameter and larger than the radius of the drilled hole. The roller is rotatably mounted on a tubular shaft which is parallel to but displaced eccentrically with respect to the axis of the drill stem and armed on the flat cutting face thereof with cutting elements and peripheral teeth, protection against radial wear being provided by anti-abrasive elements incorporated in the surface of the cylindrical zone which forms an extension of the teeth. A drill-sten connector which is coaxial with the hole balances the eccentric displacement of the roller by means of eccentric masses which are protected against wear and is provided with a duct for drilling fluid.
