The present invention related to improvements in weft-carrying grippers for weft continuous feed weaving looms and in means for guiding their movement through the shed. The weft carrying grippers (1, 2) according to the invention, of the type wherein the grippers are made of metal and are driven in their back-and-forth movements through the shed by carbon-fibre and/or polyester straps exclusively guided from outside the shed are both characterised by a metal shoe (3, 4) integrated in said gripper and projecting from the bottom thereof, near the tip, to which it is radiussed and in that said shoe (3, 4) has a large central recess (7, 8), designed to host the ends (12, 13) of the driving strap (10, 11), which is narrower than the rest of the strap and thinner than the recess (7, 8) of the shoe. The respective means for guiding the movements through a loom shed of a pair of weft-carrying grippers (1, 2) as defined above, of the type wherein in the driving straps (10. 11) of said grippers there is a metal track covered in ceramic, is characterised in that said straps (10, 11) are quite larger than said grippers (1, 2), except near said grippers, and are guided by two double rows of hooks (19, 20) or by a pair of grooved guides placed outside the shed, and in that at least the parts (16, 17) placed outside the shed of said track have a large central longitudinal groove (21, 22) designed to host the shoe (3, 4) of said grippers (1, 2).

A gripper head travelling through a shed in a weaving loom, has a longitudinal lateral guide surface (14A, 17A) along its gripper head body which is temporarily contacted by guide lever fingers in those positions of the head where its proper guidance is most critical, e.g. at the time of the weft transfer. The guide lever fingers are so driven by a drive mechanism that these fingers are withdrawn from the loom shed just as soon as the weft transfer is completed.

Device for guiding the rapier rods in a rapier loom, comprising several rapier guides. The first rapier guide supports the rapier rod heads and consists of guide tables which are adjustably mounted on an adjustable bracket, which in turn is adjustably mounted on an adjustable carrier structure. The carrier structure is adjustably mounted on a suspension bar and the suspension bar is adjustably mounted on the rapier guide housing. The second rapier guide consists of a number of rollers which guide the back of the rapier rods and position the raoier rods relative to the vertical shaft of the drive gear wheels. These rollers are provided in a roller frame, and these rollers can be set and fixed in a vertical and horizontal direction perpendicular to the rapier rods. The roller frame is adjustably mounted to the rapier guide housing. The third rapier guide consists of profile guides which are accommodated so that they are adjustable in height in a U-section. The U-section is fixed against the rapier guide housing. The rapier guide housing is mounted on a boss so that it is adjustable about a center line which coincides with the center line of the shaft of the drive gear wheels and allows the rapier guide housing to be set and fixed in different directions on the frame of the loom, so that the rapier guide housing coordinates these three guides so that they function as one unit.

The apparatus contains a ribbon wheel driven in alternating direction of rotation with a flexible insertion ribbon being wound and unwound in a first looping region of the ribbon wheel and lappable over more than 360.degree. of the circumference. A ribbon type guide element loops the portion of the insertion ribbon present on the ribbon wheel. The insertion ribbon and the guide element are each fastened at one end in a trough-like depression of the ribbon wheel by a recessed clamp which has a support surface adapted to the adjacent surface portions to be lapped and ascending in a circumferential direction in a continuous arc. The other end of the guide element is fastened by a second clamp disposed in the same or another depression.

A novel gripping apparatus for shuttleless looms comprising in combination a weft supplying fork mechanism and a weft transfer hook mechanism. The weft supplying fork mechanism includes a hollow body fixed on a steel belt of a shuttleless loom for movement, a warp-crossing guide member and a weft guide member provided on the body with a weft guide slot therein, as well as a movable grip member disposed on one side of the body for weft gripping operation. The weft transfer hook mechanism comprises a body having an inverse hook at the front and fixed on another steel belt, a movable grip device installed in the body, a yarn-pressing elastic member and a second warp-crossing guide plate fixed on one side, and a second weft guide member provided on top of the body, so that the weft transfer hook mechanism can be completely inserted into the hollow body of the weft supplying mechanism for weft exchanging and transferring operations.

A shuttleless weaving machine employs filling-yarn transfer at the center of a shed from a first gripper system advanced from one side to a second gripper system approaching from the other side. The yarn transfer is implemented by opening and subsequently closing the clamping means of the gripper systems by means of control levers which are made to enter from the outside through the warp threads into the shed. The control levers are mounted at fixed locations and are so shaped and can be so pivoted from an operational position within the shed into a rest position below the shed that, when the reed beats up, the reed stay can pass unhindered over the control lever. A common shaft carries both the control levers and cam means for actuating the control levers. Actuating means transmitting actuating motion from the cam means to the control levers are mounted on pivot means arranged in spaced parallel relationship to the common shaft.
